YET again this year, this month was a record-breaker for the number of patients waiting on trolleys in University Hospital Kerry.
There were 343 people waiting on trolleys at UHK in August, an increase of 16 on the previous record for August last year when there were 327 patients on trolleys.
This follows on from a record-breaking June and July at the hospital for trolley figures. The monthly Trolleywatch figures compiled by the Irish Nurses and Midwives organisation shows that numbers of patients on trolleys in hospitals around the country was 9,603 in August.
Continued below…
INMO General Secretary Phil Ní Sheaghdha said: “For the third time this year, we have seen another monthly overcrowding record broken with 9,603 patients on trolleys through out the month of August.
“The consistently high levels of overcrowding we have seen this summer are sounding the alarm for a very bleak winter ahead unless immediate action is taken by the Minister for Health and the HSE in the form of a fully funded, winter plan. This plan should be published prior to the Emergency Taskforce reconvening on September. It is not good enough to publish a plan for winter when healthcare workers and patients are in the throes of a winter crisis.”
“As we head into a winter of unknowns in our health service, the Minister for Health and senior HSE management must make it their business to take every step that they can to protect nurses, midwives and patients.
“We know that over 1,171 healthcare workers have contracted COVID in the past four weeks. It is vital now that the booster and flu vaccines are provided to healthcare workers. The health and safety of our healthcare workforce and patients depends on it,” added Ms Ní Sheaghdha.
WHILE junior infants entered the classrooms for the first time at Listellick National School this week, they’ll have to get used to new surroundings again later in the year.
This is the last time a set of new arrivals are starting their education at the old school on the hill as, all going well, the pupils will be moving across the road to the brand new school building in December once construction is completed.
Principal Annette Dineen said it was a nostalgic occasion, but they all can’t wait for the move. All the children settled in well and are already enjoying making new friends. Scroll down for photos…

THE Diocese of Kerry will join dioceses across Ireland and Christian churches globally in marking the ‘Season of Creation’ from September 1st to October 4th.
This is a time when Christian churches around the world focus on prayer and action to protect the natural world or creation.
It closes on the 4th October, the feast day of St Francis of Assisi, Patron Saint of Ecology. The 53 parishes across the diocese of Kerry are being encouraged to mark the Season in some way.
Continued below…
This year parishes have received copies of a leaflet which explains the theme and gives practical suggestions of actions that can be taken in the areas of caring for the gifts of soil and water.
Parishes have also received the necessary resources to include the theme in Sunday masses during the 5-week Season.
The Radio Kerry programme ‘Horizons’, the daily ‘Just A Thought’ and the diocesan Facebook page will all highlight the theme across the Season.
The leaflet is also available on the diocesan website www.dioceseofkerry.ie and Facebook page.
Then on September 22nd the organising committee, the Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation Committee(JPIC) of the diocese, will host a free webinar focusing on the vital role of soil and water with speakers: Thomas O Connor, organic farmer and Talamh Beo and Catherine Seale-Duggan, Local Authorities Water.
“We need to use the season of creation to appreciate creation, appreciate what creation gives us and to renew our responsibility to take care of it. …this is an opportunity for us to get involved,” said Bishop Ray Browne.
SINN Féin Councillor Deirdre Ferris is calling on the Dept of Education act immediately to resolve the ongoing problems with school transport.
In recent weeks the councillor for the Tralee Municipal District of the Council has been contacted by numerous families looking for assistance as they cannot get a placement for their child on school transport or have been issued with inappropriate collection times and collection points.
“Some families have been issued with collection times as early as 7:20am which will have their secondary and primary school children being dropped at their school nearly an hour before the school day starts,” said Cllr Ferris.
Continued below…
Cllr Ferris said she also has had complaints from concerned parents regarding unsafe collection points.
“Primary and secondary school students have been issued with collection points on the side of main roads, with no street lighting or set down areas to wait for their bus collection. This is a serious health and safety concern for many parents”.
According to Cllr Ferris, the registration process for a school bus placement has also been causing problems for families. Some claiming to have registered one or more children on the same day, but not all students registered on the system.
This has left some siblings without a bus placement. Cllr Ferris is calling on the Minister and the Department for Education to resolve these issues immediately.
GARDAI are advising people to be wary of rental scams, particularly at a time of year when students are preparing to return to college.
There has been an increase of 30% in accommodation fraud in 2022, in comparison with 2019 (February–July 2022 v February-July 2019 (pandemic restriction years omitted).
€1300 is the median amount stolen and approximately 50% of incidents occur in Dublin. The return to college timeframe (August- October) shows a spike in accommodation fraud.

Over 50% increase in victims of accommodation fraud aged under 25 in 2022 and €291,452 was stolen in 2022 versus almost €250,000 in 2019.
Detective Superintendent Michael Cryan of the Gardaí National Economic Crime Bureau gave advice: “You should only use recognised letting agencies or deal with people who are bona fida and trusted. Websites can be cloned, check the URL to ensure it’s a real website and take note of the privacy and refund policy sections.
Be very wary of social media advertisements or where a person letting the location will only communicate via messenger or Whatsapp. You should push for direct answers and if responses are vague disengage immediately.
Watch out for unsolicited contacts or where the contact appears to be based in other jurisdictions and especially if there is a sense of urgency like “a one-time offer”.
Continued below…
If you have decided to take up the offer only use trusted money transfer systems, An Garda Síochána would recommend using a credit card. Never transfer money direct, pay cash, pay into cryptocurrency wallets.
Be wary if a website is asking you to send money to a random PayPal address or asking you to wire it by Western Union or pay in iTunes gift cards or ask you to pay for long-term rental accommodation via a short-term letting website or only deals in cryptocurrency.
Most of the time, those methods are done to avoid scrutiny and ensure that a transaction can not be reversed.”
Red Flags/Warning Signs:
– When the landlord is unable to meet up to show you the property in person.
– When communication is only through Text / WhatsApp or other social media platform.
– When the property is offered with no questions asked and payment demanded immediately before signing the lease.
– When you are asked to pay cash, cryptocurrency or money via a non-bank transfer (such as wire transfer)

In it’s day the motto was “flick to kick” 7 million people played the game and it was huge. World Cup’s, National Championships the list goes on.
The game is Subbuteo Table Footbal and this year marks the 75th anniversary of it’s founding.
In the last 22 years the game saw a big drop in numbers but slowly it’s making a come back.
In the UK the club total is rising steadily by the day to over 30.
Here in Ireland it was just Donegal and Derry that had clubs up until 2 months ago, now we have thriving clubs that have been set up in Dublin and Kerry with big interest in other parts of the country.
For those who don’t know the game, it’s based on Association Football, played on a snooker table like surface pitch roughly 5ft x 3ft.
The players are 1 inch plastic replica figures of any team you choose with the ball being about 3/4 inch in size. Quite simply you flick the figure onto the ball and try to get the ball in the net.
Locally the club is called Tralee and Munster Subbuteo Club and we play in Mounthawk Park at the Kerry District League HQ. Our next meeting will be in September.
Nationally the Irish Subbuteo Championships are being held on 22 October in Walkinsinstown, Dublin, with one more in the Irish Open series due for Wexford in November.
On the International stage Ireland are represented in the forth coming World Cup in Rome.17-18 September.
Finally at the club we have all the accessories needed plus 2 full size tables. Everyone is welcome to come over and give it a try.
Latest results:
West Ham 0 Anderlecht 1 (Cian v Trevor)
Aston Villa 2 West Ham 2 (Dave v Cian)
Anderlecht 3 Aston Villa 1 ( Trevor v Dave)

The IABA is delighted to confirm the launch of the High Five Boxing Academy this week, an inclusive boxing training programme, for children with disabilities and additional needs.
High Five began in four Dublin boxing clubs in October 2021.
Chairperson Paddy Dingle, from Michael Carruth’s Drimnagh Boxing Club, had an overwhelming desire to act in response to hearing about the lack of inclusion and access to sports for children with disabilities from parents, carers and assistants in his community.
Paddy revealed to boxing coaches and volunteers hoping to participate in the academy, that he and his colleagues have witnessed phenomenal benefits arising for the boxers as well as the parents. Parents and coaches have noted improvement in fitness, strength, co-ordination and confidence amongst the kids as well as the social benefits they experience participating in the class.
The IABA will begin to provide training, assistance, and support, in conjunction with Cara Sport Inclusion Ireland, to boxing clubs participating in the academy. Tralee Boxing Club is excited to be involved in the High Five Programme and look forward to the opportunity to help more kids in our community to bring out the best in themselves through boxing.
Reminding all members and prospective members, registration night for Tralee Boxing Club will take place from 5-7pm on Monday 5th September. Parents will need to accompany children to the desk to fill in registration forms. The fee remains the same at €20 per boxer for the year or €50 per family.
TBC would like to congratulate two of our hardest working members, Lynda and Nora, on their recent success being chosen for the IABA’s 2022-23 Women’s Coaching Pathway Programme.
There was huge demand for placements on the programme, an exciting initiative supported by Sport Ireland, for female coaches and aspiring coaches, giving them the opportunity to improve their knowledge, expand their network and develop leadership and coaching skills.
Well done ladies, we wish you the best of luck with your training and are proud of you and your hard work to expand and diversify our coaching team.
Finally we would like to remind everyone that TBC will launch the last leg of our project to help integrate migrant communities through boxing on Monday September 5th.
The project will officially finish up on September 30th and has been extremely successful and a whole lot of fun so far. Anyone interested in participating , please check out Tralee Boxing Club 22 on Facebook for more details or to get in contact.
AN incident, where a tourist was revived after he suffered a cardiac arrest in the town centre, has prompted a fundraiser to supply more public defibrillators for Tralee.
Tralee Community Responders are raising money through a gofundme page to add more defibrillators to the town and a local businessman, Sean Lynch of Hogan’s Tralee, has made a donation of €2,000 to that end. He presented the cheque to Thomas White of the group on Monday evening.
The campaign was inspired after a German man aged in his 70s collapsed outside Dealz store in Abbey Court on August Bank Holiday Monday. Local women Audrey Moran and Mary Lynch were first on the scene and immediately fetched the defibrillator located on The Mall.
Continued below…
The device was used to revive the man before the ambulance arrived to take him to hospital. He has made a recovery and is now back in Munich. His family is still in contact with Audrey and they sent €250 towards the fundraiser this week.
Mary Lynch approached Sean Lynch of Hogan’s, who has made contributions to worthy causes in the past, to see if he would make a donation and she was overwhelmed at the generosity of his contribution.
Thomas White said there are two public defibrillators located in the town centre — one in The Mall and the other at Cara Credit Union. He said that there is a need for at least two more accessible defibrillators, hence the campaign.
It’s hoped to locate a new defibrillator on Denny Street near to the Town Park as soon as possible. The gofundme page can be accessed by clicking here.

Anthony O’Gara was speaking on Radio Kerry’s ‘Kerry Today’ programme this morning where he said they would be meeting with “significant” businesspeople in the town about the future of the Festival.
He told host Jerry O’Sullivan that there were around 500 businesses in town which could come together to form a ‘co-operative’, with each making a financial contribution into a fund.
The businesses themselves would then decide how best to use this fund during the Festival. Mr O’Gara suggested an annual contribution of around €500 each, but each amount would depend on the size of the business.

Kerry Petroleum Senior Club Football Championship semi final:Spa 0-16 Kerins O’Rahilly’s 1-16 )
A penalty converted by Kerry senior Jack Savage in the 40th minute proved crucial as Kerins O’Rahilly’s saw off the challenge of a gallant Spa side but only after extra time in this Kerry Senior Club Championship semi-final played at the Spa GAA Grounds, Killarney. They will now play Templenoe in the club final later in the year.
Spa have been the surprise packets of this year’s Senior Club Championship. They beat Dingle and Na Gaeil and drew with Kenmare Shamrocks to top their group.
They were now meeting last year’s beaten county championship finalists Kerins O’Rahilly’s in the semi-final in an acid test of how far they’d come.
The Tralee side were dealt a couple of body blows in recent weeks, losing Cormac Coffey, their outstanding attacking defender who has moved to Dubai, and Tommy Walsh picked up an injury against Austin Stacks and will be out for a couple of more weeks, and Donagh Buckley out for remainder of season.
Conor Hayes and Con Barrett are also rehabbing from injury so Kerins O’Rahilly’s were not at full strength.
But this epic was keenly fought with referee Sean Joy issuing multiple yellow cards, four black cards and two red cards, much to the bemusement of the large attendance.
Spa looked the better side in the opening half as Kerins O’Rahilly’s lost two players to black cards, Gavin O Brien after just three minutes and Jack Savage were the first to go in the 12th minute after a running battle with his Kerry teammate Dan O’Donoghue which continued all game until both received second yellows in the 54th minutes and two reds followed.
But there was also some excellent football played among the frequent flurry of cards and at half time Spa looked the better side leading 0-8 to 0-6. In fact, Spa led 0-5 to 0-1 at the end of the opening quarter thanks to points from Evan Cronin (3), Eoin Fitzgerald and Mike Foley while Jack Savage replied for Strand Road with a mark.
But with David Moran and Gavin O’Brien now dominant at midfield and Gearóid Savage working hard, the Tralee side fought back with a peach of a point from David Moran, and two Tom Hoare frees. Ryan Carroll, Evan Cronin and Mike Foley pushed Spa clear but Jack Savage returned from his black exile to kick two fine points and Spa retired 0-8 to 0-6 in front.
Tom Hoare then closed the gap to one from the throw in but David Spillane and Evan Cronin increased the lead to 0-10 to 0-7. Savage with another free and David Moran rolling back the years kicked a massive point to close the gap to a single point with 38 minutes gone.
Then came the pivotal moment in the 40th minute when big Diarmuid O’Sullivan was pushed as he tried to field a high ball in the box, and Jack Savage beat Devane low to the keeper’s right.
Now it was Spa who were chasing the game and when Evan Cronin leveled in the 63rd minute after Ross O’Callaghan had been black carded, Spa launched one final attack and Cian Tobin saw his effort for a winning point for Spa come back off the post and so to extra time.
Spa never scored in the opening period of extra time with Barry John Keane, Conor Hayes and T J Heaphy adding Strand Road points and though Conor Stack got a point back for a Spa, they conceded a second penalty and Barry John Keane tapped it over the bar as Kerins O’Rahilly’s just got over the line.
Scorers for Kerins O’Rahilly’s: J Savage (1-5, 2f’s, 1m), T Hoare ( 0-3, 2f’s), D Moran and B J Keane( 0-1pen) 0-2 each, G Savage, T J Heaphy, C Hayes and S Walsh ( 0-1 each).
Scorers for Spa: E Cronin (0-6, 2f’s, 1m), M Foley (0-4, 3f’s), S Cronin (0-2), E Fitzgerald, R Carroll, C Stack and D Spillane (0-1 each).
SPA: J Devane; E O’Donoghue, D O’Donoghue, E Fitzgerald; S Lynch, S Cronin , G Vaughan; L Kearney, C Spillane ; R Carroll, E Cronin , M O’Donoghue ; B Lynch , M Foley, D Spillane.

U14 NORTH KERRY LEAGUE
Messages will be sent about our next match shortly.
We started out the strongest and looked in control in the first quarter when we lead by 0-04 to 0-01. Laune Rangers made a comeback bringing the half time score to 0-04 to 0-04. The Killorglin side got the upper hand in the second half and had a five point lead over us with 10 minutes to go. The next 10 minutes were hotly contested , a goal from Aoibheann McCarthy and bringing on Caoilainn Culloo brought us back into the game. We began to up the ante and took the lead with two minutes to go but a free kick from a foul was the equaliser. A fantastic comeback from our young ladies !
We will have to do it all over again…
A hectic week of action for all involved and a unique turn of events..
On Sunday afternoon last we took to the field in Pat Healy Park, Ballyrickard.
Unfortunately our U15s exited the championship at the hands of Laune Rangers in a super replay played in very warm conditions.
Rahillys got off to a great start with a goal from Aoibheann McCarthy and points from Taylor Stack and Saoirse O’ Connor MacCarthy.
As the half developed Laune Rangers came more into the game but Millie Hayes in goals and the full back line of Erika Slattery, Donna O’ Regan and Mia Molloy stood solid. These defenders were ably assisted by a hard working half back line Farah Leahy, Katie Higgins and Caragh Houlihan. Just before half time the Killorglin side rattled in three fast goals that saw Rahillys down eight points at half time.
In the second half Kelly Fitzgerald and Saoirse O’ Connor MacCarthy thundered into the game and Córa Meehan scored a smashing goal . Lily Breen, Aimee Turner , Aoife O’ Connell, Sara Reka and Fiadh McCarthy got on lots of ball and the lead was reduced to three points. In an end to end finish to the game Molly Casey made some good saves and Caoilainn Culloo was busy up front . In the finish Rahillys came up short in a great game . Well done to the management and squad.

A lot of the boys were at the Seniors game against Spa and are now really looking forward to supporting them in the final. Keep up the practice boys and one day it will be yereselves wearing those Senior Jerseys.
U8 Girls – U8 girls had a great turnout Sunday morning for the match with St. Pats with two teams togging out. They played two twenty Minute games each which was tough going in the heat . There was some very good football on display. Most of the girls had the confidence to try to solo which was great to see. There was some lovely scores on both sides along with some nice teamwork. Their understanding of positions and the roles involved is really starting to emerge. A great morning overall .

Thanks to Kilmoyley for travelling to Caherslee and for a great match.
Under 11 Camogie
Our u 11’s travelled to causeway for a blitz on Saturday morning. The girls played three great matches against Cillard, Abbeykillix and Causeway. Senior Ladies: Hard luck to our senior ladies who lost to Finuge/St. Senans last Monday in the first game of the senior county championship. Hopefully they can get back on track with a win when they play Rathmore away in round 2 tonight, Monday 29th.
U14 girls: Well done to our girls who defeated Austin Stacks last Tuesday night in the U14 North Kerry League by 8 points to 1-2.
U9 boys: The u9s travelled to Kilcummin last Tuesday evening and put on a fine display against a strong Kilcummin side. Then last Thursday our lads hosted St Senans in Na Gaeil. The boys played some fantastic football and improvements are being made match after match. Then yesterday we made the trip to Dingle to play the locals. Our numbers were very low but we still put on a great performance against a physical Dingle side. Well done boys.
U13 boys: Last Thursday we travelled to Killorglin to play Laune Rangers. Our Green team were first up at 6pm We had a great start and got on the scoreboard early with a goal and a point but Laune Rangers responded with a goal themselves making it only a point between them.
Our lads pushed on then and got two more goals and 5 points to Laune Rangers just a goal. We kicked another five points to Laune Rangers one point making the halftime score 3-11 to 2-01. Second half saw a great fight back from Laune Rangers and outscored us 3-4 to 1-4.
However our boys had enough done and finished worthy winners on a score line of 4-15 to 5-05. Our White team played at 7pm and this was another great contest as a whole but it was Laune Rangers who owned the first twenty minutes and led 1-06 to a 0-01.
Our lads worked extremely hard and got themselves a little closer at halftime with a score line of 1-08 to 0-04. To our credit in the second half we scored the first five points without reply making it 1-08 to 0-09 and went on to score another 0-03 to their 0-02 making it a one point game with ten minutes to go.
Eventually the goals we needed came and thegame finished out 2-13 to 2-12 at the final whistle. It was an epic game and thanks to Laune Rangers for two sporting games.
U13 boys: Last Sunday evening we hosted John Mitchels and again it was our Green team who played first at 5.30pm. Our lads played with great intent in the first half and worked really hard all over the field.
There was great football played by both teams but our Green team had the upper hand and went in 1-07 to 0-06 up at halftime. John Mitchels came out strong in the second half tightened things up big time and the game was nip and tuck all the way through the second half. Scores were well earned and our Green team showed great resilience and composure to finish out worthy winners 3-13 to 2-15.
Our White team played at 7pm and this was always going to be a tough contest against the Division 1 Co. League runners up who showed their worth by playing some great football in the first half.
They took great scores and our lads found it difficult to get to the pace of the game in the first fifteen minutes where we found ourselves trailing by 1-05 to 0-02. However as the half progressed we got ourselves back into it and made it 1-04 to 2-05. We were unlucky to concede 1-01 just before halftime making it 3-06 to 1-04.
However in the second half we came out and challenged for everything and worked really hard all over the field. After forty minutes the score line read 3-09 to 1-08 so it was the goals that were hurting us. The game continued on in great fashion and John Mitchels finished out deserved winners on the night with a score line of 3-12 to 2-10.
Thanks to John Mitchels for two great sporting games. Our good performances in the group stage of Division 1 Central Region, with four wins out of four for the Green team and Three wins out of four for the White team, have earned us home semi-finals which are to be confirmed.
St Brendans Board U15 boys: Hard luck to the Na Gaeil lads who are part of the St Brendans Board U15 team wholost to a strong West Kerry side in Blennerville last Wednesday in the semi-final of the u15 County Championship shield competition. Those lads are Iarla Hanafin, Jamie Schoenmaker, Ruadhan Clifford, Conor Lucey, Jeaic Canty, Liam Cooper, Paddy McElligott, Brian Heaphy and Cillian Griffin.
U17 boys: Na Gaeil minors lost out to Waterville/Dromid last Friday night in Waterville on a score line of 1-16 to 2-12.On a beautiful evening for football na Gaeil got off to a flyer running into a 1-2 to no score lead within the first 5 minutesbut trouble started then.
First Seán Warr got injured and was replaced by our only sub Fionn Heaslip which led to a reshuffle of the team. In this settling period Waterville/Dromid came back fighting and went ahead 1-9 to 1-6 by half time.
The rustiness in the first half was well gone in the second half and we were all treated to a fine open game of football from both sides. After using our only sub in the first half disaster struck at half time when Peter Doyle had to be withdrawn through injury also so for the entire second half na Gaeil played with 14 men but that gave them more fuel to not give in.
have potentially not just drawn this game but indeed maybe snuck a win. A hugely encouraging performance and enjoyable game by the boys, and they go into the shield semi final which is fixed now for the 10th September.

U12 Girls
Best wishes to all our U12 girls who are starting secondary school this week and to all those who are meeting their new class teachers.
It’s been a very busy summer and we are very thankful for all the effort and time that was given to the green and gold jersey.

Training resumes on Wednesday night at 7 and again on Sunday morning at midday.
U14 GIRLS
John Mitchels 8-12 Duagh 7-2
John Mitchels u14s had a comprehensive win over Duagh in their second-round game of the North Kerry League in Ballyseedy on Tuesday night.
With a loss in their first game, it was important to get a result from this game, and so it proved, with some excellent scores.
It was a quick start with early goals from Kerri and Lisa, and with a strong lead, the coaches were able to rotate the team, bringing on players from the bench.
This disruption to our defence allowed Duagh to get in for some scores, but we looked by far the stronger side, especially in attack, and were comfortable winners.
The next game is away to Listowel Emmets on Tuesday night and we hope to fulfill our back fixture with Currow later in the week.
U16 GIRLS
Training for U16 ladies continues this Monday evening from 6.00-7.00pm in preparation for upcoming North Kerry League

U8 Girls
We had a great morning of football in St Pats vs Kerins O’Rahillys under 8s. A good turnout of 11 girls meant 2 matches & plenty of ball touches for each girl. We were very impressed by all the girl’s skills with solos & great kicking on display all round. The girls enjoyed playing against many school friends & enjoyed the experience. Back to training next week at 10.30am at St Pats. Any girls who have missed sessions due to holidays & commitments are most welcome back to finish out the season. The more numbers the better moving forward in our small club we are very proud of how the girl’s side is developing. Go St Pats.
U9
We had a great session on Sunday where we focused on tackling and soloing before going into a fast-paced match. Noah Fealy and Nicolas O’Shea were the standout performers with Noah bursting from defence to kick some great scores and Nicolas making some big tackles
We play Na Gaeil on Monday and are looking forward to it.

We are due to play two remaining games in the Central Region, Templenoe and Glenbeigh-Glencar. At the time of these notes going to print, we did not have confirmation of dates as of yet. St Michael’s Foilmore scored the next three points, Kieran Hurley added a point which was answered with a point from opposition. This first half ended St Pats 0-03 St Michael’s Foilmore 0-04
The 2nd half began with three points and a goal without reply from the opposition, Kieran Hurley, and David O Callaghan each added their own point. Two points from St Michael’s Foilmore this was the last of their scoring in this half.
Five points from Kieran Hurley and two points from Cormac Lynch to draw us level in full time. Extra Time was needed and in the first ten minutes St Michael’s Foilmore scored just one point, points from David O Callaghan, Brian Murphy and Kieran Hurley brought us two points ahead.
As the 2nd half of extra time began St Michael’s Foilmore scored one point in this half. David O Callaghan, Kieran Hurley, and Brian Murphy each added their own points with the minutes counting we held the ball to finish the match St Pats 0-18 St Michael’s Foilmore 1-11. On Saturday night our senior men welcomed St. Senan’s for the quarter final of the Junior Premier Championship.
Regardless of the result this was to be the final home championship game of the year for Ballymac and a large crown turned. The sunny evening and hopeful expectations had all in attendance in eager anticipation for the game.
St. Senan’s started the game with a number of prolonged periods of possession but without making a serious impact on the scoreboard. Ballymac opened up a 4-point lead with a goal mid-way through the first half leaving the half time score at Ballymac 1:06 St. Senan’s 0:03.
The second half saw Ballymac start where they left off and by the 40 minute had scored 2 additional goals. With some of the intensity gone from the game both teams continued to play entertaining football. The game finished on a score of Ballymac 6:10 / St. Senan’s 0:10.
Ballymac progress to the semi-final versus Listry.
Ladies News
Senior Ladies
Randle Bros County Championship Junior B Round1
Ballymacelligott v John Mitchels
On what was a lovely night for football, a depleted and very young Ballymac side faced off against near neighbours John Mitchels. The opening exchanges were very tight on the scoreboard, though Ballymac were controlling possession, but were guilty of missing a number of outstanding goal chances. Indeed, it was a brave Mitchels side who opened the scoring from a free, which was answered by a splendid point from play by Kate Collins.
Then after missing two glorious chances of goals, Mitchels struck with a goal from a short Ballymac kick out that went wrong…This seem to have awoken the Ballymac ladies as they hit the Mitchels with 1-4 without reply in the next six minutes (the goal finishing off a great movement involving 8 Ballymac players and was finished to the net by Ella Quirke) Both sides swapped points, with Eve Creedon shooting some classy points, until Ballymac and Kate Collins made the decisive break with another goal just 3 minutes out from halftime, leaving Ballymac ahead by 6 points at the short break 2-7 to 1-4.
The second half began just as the first half had ended, with another goal from Kate Collins. The 5 minutes before half time and after saw Ballymac score 2-2 to Mitchels 1-1, as they built up a sizeable cushion.
Mitchels did finally break down an outstanding Ballymac defence with a well taken goal, but any chance of a resurgence was coldly put aside, Ballymac striking for 3 goals in 6 minutes to put the tie beyond doubt. The scorers were Ella Quirke, Rachel Creedon and Roisin Rahilly. With 10mins left the score stood at 6-8 to 2-5.
The Ballymac midfield of Aishling O’Connell and Keelin Enright were completely dominating and Grainne Galvin leading the defence from Full Back. The brave Mitchels did score another goal from a penalty with time almost up, leaving a final score of 6-10 to 3-7.
Ballymacelligott squad was as follows, Robyn White, Shonagh Griffin, Grainne Galvin, Caoimhe Carroll, Ciara Kerins, Una Kerins, Rachel Griffin, Aishling O’Connell, Keelin Enright, Rachel Creedon, Roisin Rahilly, Kate Collins, Ella Quirke, Eve Creedon, Kate O’Connor, Sarah Scanlon, Kerry Hennessy Naomi O’Sullivan, Deborah O’Connor and Ellie McElliogott.
We now move onto Round 2, next Monday Evening 29th August at 7pm. In Ballymacelligott. This will be a huge challenge v the side that beat us in the Junior C County Final in 2020. All support is Welcome.

Academy
U5 Academy notes:
A big treat for our U5’s this week when our older players got a chance to play a match integrated with the U7’s during training as we begin their preparation for moving up teams’ next season. The rest of our squad had a great time playing roller ball, beat the coach and sprinting around our obstacle course. Best of luck to all our players starting or returning to school and preschool tomorrow and we’ll see you next week for more fun and games.
Under 9s
Our u 9s travelled to Churchill on Friday evening to play in the Go Games Blitz organised by the locals.
We were thrilled to have two teams competing, 11 a side and games were 15 minutes long.

Looking forward to playing more games over the next couple of weeks and again we encourage all players to practice at home.

THE Brandon Hotel was the venue on Saturday for the Kerry Islamic Outreach Society’s ‘Seventh Annual Islamic Cultural Exhibition’.
Visitors enjoyed complimentary refreshments, gift bags, henna painting, face painting, having their name written in Arabic calligraphy along with information on Islamic faith and culture.
There was a steady stream of visitors to the exhibition in order to learn about the faith and rituals of their friends, neighbours, colleagues and fellow students living in the county, including Deputy Michael Healy Rae and Tralee MD Cllr Sam Locke.

Deputy Healy Rae said he was delighted to attend and praised the contribution made by the Muslim community to society in Tralee and Kerry.
As in previous years, there was a charity aspect to the day with all proceeds on Saturday going to Recovery Haven Kerry. Scroll down for photos…
THEY were doling out free ice-creams on Ashe Street on Saturday afternoon for the official launch of the Cara Credit Union’s Quick Lodge and Withdrawal Lobby.
The ice-cream was just a small part of the entertainment as customers brought the kids for balloon making, face painting and a chance to win some cash when they made a transaction on the new kiosk.
The new ‘Quick Lodge & Withdrawal Lobby’ will be open each Saturday from 10am to 4pm in the Tralee Branch of Cara Credit Union. Scroll down for photos…
THE walking efforts of three women on the other side of the world raised over €6,500 for Comfort For Chemo Kerry.
Erin Flanagan from Tralee, Aislinn Dowling from Kilmoyley and Bronagh Shiel from Kilkenny (whose mother Trish hails from Castlegregory) took on the fundraiser in response of Erin’s mother Lorraine receiving treatment for lung cancer in the chemotherapy unit at UHK last year.
The three women are domiciled in Sydney and Erin couldn’t get home to her mother during her illness because of COVID restrictions in Australia.
Continued below…
Erin wanted to do something so she and her friends Aislinn and Bronagh decided to take on a sponsored walk of 300 miles around the Sydney area in 31 days during October.
Their efforts were a huge success and they raised €6,517. Erin and Bronagh are back home for a few weeks so they, along with Lorraine (who is now in good health) and Trish, presented the cheque to Mary Fitzgerald of Comfort For Chemo at The Rose Hotel on Friday.
“It was a fantastic fundraiser by the girls,” said Mary Fitzgerald. “We’re very grateful for their efforts, walking in that heat over in Australia.”
THE Kingdom Veteran, Vintage and Classic Car Club is planning two events to wrap up the classic car season in Kerry.
On September 25, the club will run its Secretary’s Scramble, a long-standing tradition in the club where the sitting secretary puts on a run of their choice.
This year Garret Foley has devised a route that will see a convoy of club cars leave Tralee for a visit to the Kilgarvan Motor Museum before a run down Moll’s Gap and a lunch halt in Killarney.
Continued below…
The club is also in the planning stage for its two-day Autumn Run in Kenmare, always a highlight in the club’s calendar. This year’s event will take place on October 14 and 15.
Meanwhile, the club was invited to put on a static display in Tralee Town Park on the Sunday of the Rose of Tralee International Festival.
New for this year’s returning festival was the inclusion of Feile na mBlath which usually takes place over the June weekend. A total of 22 cars were on display ranging in age from 1938 to 1996.
“It was very much a family day and the reaction from the general public was unbelievable with many never before seeing the models on display,” said KVVCC secretary Garret Foley.
“As a group, we were very well looked after with all participants receiving a medal and food voucher to use at the event’s many stalls. The day was very much enjoyed by all who attended, with many coming well prepared with deck chairs and even picnics. Our thanks to Brian Carr for looking after us on the day.”
The oldest car on display was a 1938 Riley which was driven to Tralee from Killarney by one of the club’s longest-serving members, Mike Mc Donagh.
THE Tralee Chain Gang Cycling Club were delighted to present a cheque for €5,000 on Friday to ADAPT Kerry.
Eight members of the club along with two support team members went on a cycle from Mizen Head in Cork to Malin Head in Donegal earlier this month.
Starting on Sunday, August, 7 it took four days to complete the 637km cycle. The members of the club made the decision to start a gofundme page with all proceeds going to support the fantastic work of Adapt Kerry in Tralee, who provide a women’s refuge and family support services.
Continued below…
The gofundme page raised €4,500 while the club members contributed an extra €500. The cyclists taking part in the challenge were Declan Murphy, Avril Hewitt, Brian Neenan, Jerry Quinlan, Neil O’Farrell, Mike O’Doherty, Declan O’Hara and Denis O’Sullivan, while the support team were Pat Keohane and Seamus O’Donovan.
“It was tough, we had done a lot of training but it was the equivalent of doing four Ring of Kerry cycles one after the other,” said one of the cyclists, Declan Murphy.
“None of us are very young but we enjoyed it. The weather was lovely, we had four glorious days and we all got there safely. We’re delighted that our efforts will benefit ADAPT,” added Declan.
Catherine Casey, General Manager of ADAPT was delighted with the amount raised by the fundraiser.
“We’d like to thank the Chain Gang for taking on such an amazing challenge in aid of ADAPT. We appreciate them thinking of us and we hope they had a great adventure,” she said.
