Our U12A were at the wrong side of a 3 – 1 scoreline in Christy Leahy Park, Having dominated the first half but were unable to find a way past a very solid Athletic back line. Two quick goals were conceded just after half time made it an uphill task.

We did manage to get it back to 2-1 with Bruno Browzy putting the ball in Athletic’s net and almost levelled the game when Seamus Kelly had his shot saved all by the feet of the Athletic keeper. Soon after that Athletic forced a corner and an own goal finished the game as a contest. Best for us were  Immanuel Manu Ciarian Kavanagh with MOTM going to Eldon Topalli

Soccer sisters FAI Easter Camp

There are still some places left on in the Avaia soccer sisters camp which is being held in Christy Leahy Park on Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th of March. To book online you just have to go to http://www.fai.ie/domestic/fai-womens/aviva-soccer-sisters

Our U12A ,played out a goalless draw with Iveragh United in Christy Leahy Park, Having a number of chances but were unable to find a way past a very resolute Iveragh back line and the few times we managed to get beyond their defensive line the Iveragh goalkeeper was in fine form. The best and biggest save came right at the death when Jack Slattery cut in off the left wing and hit a ferocious strike which was heading towards the top corner only for the keeper to get finger tips on it to turn the ball around his near post. Best on the day we’re

Finn O’Neill, Jack Slattery, Aaron Powell and MOTM going to Immanuel Manu.

Our 13A played out a 2-2 with Killarney Celtic in Killarney on Saturday afternoon. Goals coming from Callum O’Sullivan and Darren Currnane with Obinna Izizi being MOTM

Our U15B went down 8-1 at home to a strong Rattoo Rovers. Mark Curtin got our goal with Michael Forrest was the best on the day for our U15B.

FAI Youth Cup Quarter Final.

1-0 on 25 min. Conor o Brien.

Great through ball by Mervyn onto a flying Conor and he cooly slotted it home. The home side equalised in the 56th min. And that’s how the game would finish at full time and after extra time. St Brendans Park Fc win 6-5 on penalties

Great game from 1st whistle to last. Andrew Breen at left full and Shane Jordan at centre half were outstanding all day and Conor Hayes became the hero with a brilliant save in the penalty shootout. Bring on the semi-final.

Parents of our academy players please note that the 2018 Academy Registration date for existing members is on Saturday 03 March 2018 from 10:30am to 12:30pm at our clubrooms at Christy Leahy Park. A parent/guardian must attend in person to sign the membership forms and supporting documentation in the presence of a club official. This registration session is being held in advance of the open registration session that will take place at a later date.

This allows existing members/players to secure their place in our Academy for the 2018 season.

Any existing member/ player that is not registered on the 03 March 2018 cannot be guaranteed a place in our Academy for the forthcoming season so it is essential that you take note of this. We have to restrict membership numbers according to the number of volunteers available to coach at our Academy sessions. ( Parents: If you would like to coach at our club please tell us on registration day).

The open registration day will allow parents an opportunity to register new players in our academy, places will be made available on a ”first come first serve basis” subject to the club having a sufficient number of volunteer coaches.

The fees for the 2018 Academy season are the same as last season: €80 for the first child, €50 for a second child from the same family and €35 for a third child and any other children from the same family. Each player is also required to bring €2 for each academy session which contributes greatly towards the costs of purchasing training equipment and maintaining our club facilities.

As an added bonus all existing members will receive a club crested O’Neill’s Backpack as part of their new membership package for 2018. New members/players will receive a club kit but no backpack. Existing members that need a new kit can arrange to purchase a kit from the club shop.

Note: The academy is for players from u6 to u10 age groups. Players born in 2008 will continue in our academy until the Autumn after which they leave the academy and progress to the u11 schoolboy/schoolgirls league. The full academy season will return on Saturday March 24th 2018 and continue until the end of October with a short summer break planned in July as in previous seasons.

Under 11 (2007)
Our under 11c’s travelled to killarney Celtic on Saturday afternoon and braved the bitterly cold temperatures. The two teams were producing some fine attacking play from the off. Several chances were created by both sides with park goalkeeper Mark O’Connor proving to be a great shot stopper. Most of the game then was played in the middle third of the pitch with both midfields battling very hard which was the story of the game. Special mention to man of the match Brendan maunsell with a solid display at right back. Big thanks to killarney Celtic players and coaches for an entertaining game of soccer.

Other News
Heartbreaking news coming from Camp Juniors with the death of Aodhán O’Connor. Our deepest condolences go out to his parents Aine and John, to his extended family, club mates and friends from all  at St.Brendan’s Park FC. May he rest in Peace

U -14 Sketchers National Cup
Park 3 Kells Blackwater 3 AET
Park win 7-6 on penalties

Penalty shootouts haven’t been kind to this bunch from the Park so when the referee blew for full time after extra time, after a titanic battle between two very even teams, many of the Park faithful must have been filled with trepidation. They needn’t have worried.

These young men are made of stern stuff. When you have had to come back three times to keep your dreams alive, you aren’t going to throw it away in a penalty shootout.

They didn’t. Liam Carmody saved two of the Kells Blackwater penalties, they missed two others and ten brave Park players stood up to score seven of theirs.

Even the penalties Park missed were hit superbly but were just a little unlucky. It was a real plucky performance after an epic game.

The joyous scenes at the end reflected relief, elation and the realisation that these boys had once again reached the last eight in the National Cup.

The game itself was hectic from the off. Barely a minute had passed when Messiah Chirwa was put through but the Kells keeper made a fine save and although Park created more chances in this half, Kells Blackwater were the more dominant team.

They had obviously done their homework on the Park lads as they never allowed them settle into their normal rhythm. Kells were also a little superior in the physical stakes and Park will rarely come across a team at this age whose striking of the ball was as long and accurate.

Time and time again Kells, playing with the wind, fed long ball to their tall strong centre forward but time and time again he was met by a man in monstrous form.

Kieran O’Connor played outstandingly all through the game and on the very rare occasion he was undone, Seán Hill, Luke O’Connell and Seán O’Connell came to his aid.

Nil all at half time and the game was in the balance.

Four minutes into the second half, a mix up on the Park left hand side saw an excellent ball delivered into the Park box and a superb finish from an in rushing Kells Blackwater player had them open the scoring. Cue a tit for tat battle that would continue all the way to the inevitable penalty shootout.

Chirwa won a free 35 yards out three minutes after Kells scored and up stepped Kieran O’Connor. He will never strike a free as sweetly. The young Kells keeper was excellent but he had no answer to the precision of O’Connor’s strike. One all.

Kells pressed and the Park countered. In the eighteenth minute Kells reacted quickest to a second ball on the edge of the box and scored their own rocket. Two one Kells.
Try as they might, Park couldn’t get the equaliser.

The Kells keeper was playing well and it needed someone to step up. At this stage Park had made enforced changes due to cramp and injuries, they were also without the influential Josh Connolly from the start, but they kept plugging away.

Seán O’Connell was mopping up everything alongside O’Connor at the back. Conor Kerins, Seán O’Connor, Cian O’Neill and David Feeley were locked in a huge battle in the middle of the field. Cianan Cooney, Messiah, Cillian Murphy and Colin Doody were throwing everything they knew at the the Kells defense.

From a fine Doody corner Samuel Aladesanusi almost equalised for the Park and when they got another corner three minutes from time Doody’s superb delivery was met with an expert finish from Cooney. Two all and extra time to follow.

Park started a little better in extra time but it was once again the Kells boys who went ahead.

A corner not cleared and Kells were fastest to react and go three two up.
The second half of extra time was mostly Park as the Kells boys tired and the game opened up a little. Kerins, Doody, Chirwa and Cooney were working their magic and having had a close call for an offside minutes previously they made the breakthrough.

Doody and Chirwa battled to win a ball in midfield and when Chirwa passed to Doody he slipped a magnificent ball through to Cianan Cooney. With ice in his veins, Cooney placed an unstoppable shot to the bottom of the Kells net. Three all. The dreaded penalties were next.
And sure you know the rest…

Well done to a valiant Kells Blackwater team and to their management team. They lost a brilliant contest that could have gone either way but they were carried out on their shields.

We wish them all the best in the year ahead. Thank you to the brilliant parents and supporters who backed the team through every kick, tackle and nail biting penalty.

Fantastic to see our Youth team through to the last eight as well. Well done to everyone involved. It’s great to be looking forward to the quarter final draws again.

FAI Youth Cup

Rnd 4 (Last 16)
St.Brendan’s Park FC 3 v 2 Conn Rangers

Park advanced to the next round with a deserved victory over a strong Mayo side.
Park started brightly and took a deserved lead on twelve minutes when Conn Rangers failed to clear their lines and the Parks JR Tshikota struck a low shot from the edge of the area that flew inside the keepers right hand post.Parks Adam Ward and James Sheehan controlled midfield and Park always looked dangerous on the counter thru Aaron Ward and JR.

In the twenty third minute Parks Aaron Ward struck the underneath of the crossbar only to see it bounce down and be cleared of the line.Park doubled their lead on thirty minutes  with a piece of individual class from JR as he won the ball in midfield beat two defenders and side stepped the advancing keeper to roll the ball coolly into the empty net , two nil at the break.

Park again started strongly and controlled forty minutes of the second half with their third goal on the hour as Jordan Barry picked the ball up on the right wing as he coasted by the right back he got his head up and picked out the incoming Conor O’Brien and he found the net from eight yards.

With only five minutes remaining the game took a bit of a turn when Conn Rangers were awarded a free on the edge of the area as the free was to be taken the ref blew his whistle to talk to the Parks players in the wall and as he did rangers took the free and scored and with all the confusion the ref allowed the goal to stand leaving all the players and management fuming.Park lost their composure and Conn Rangers took advantage scoring a second on ninety minutes from Parks sloppy defending.
Park saw out the game and will now be away to either Freebooters of Kilkenny or Aisling Annacotty Limerick.
Star Man of Match JR Tshikota

The park U11 team who got their first taste of the U12 Kerry Cup away to Killarney Athletic last Saturday. The team lost to a very strong Killarney Athletic team but it was a great display by all the team playing their first 9-a-side game.

Well done to Ryan O Driscoll on a well taken goal and Martin McGivern on winning MOTM. The team now enter the shield competition. The future is bright for this team.

A huge congratulations to all the players who made it into the Kerry U17 SSE Airtricity squad. WE had a massive nine players to make the squad.:

The final squad of 20 players selected to represent the KDL in the Airtricity league is below:

Well done to both sets of teams for braving the elements in today’s Park U11 vs Fenit Samphires games. Both games were very competitive with the standard of football on display of a very high standard. Thanks to Fenit for agreeing to play the fixture on our astro turf. Winner of the best snowball throwing competition was Adam Prendergast !! See you all at training next Tuesday night.

Our u11 b squad welcomed tralee dynamos to Christy Leahy park on Saturday afternoonand it was a game that produced many chances for both teams. The first half  was a scrappy affair with both teams taking time to settle. Dynamos came out second half with intent and put the park defence under pressure numerous times. The park boys then started to apply some pressure of there own midway through the second half and created some fine goalscoring chances. Special mention for man of the match oisin Breen who was the park’s main attacking threat throughout the second half and who worked tirelessly from start to finish. Thanks to dynamos players and coaches for an entertaining game.

Under thirteen (2004)
Our under 13s bowed out of the sketchers SFAI cup on Saturday last with a score line of three goals to two against a dogged Mallow United. Having been two nil up inside 20mins with goals from cian O’Gara and Callum O’Sullivan.

Under sixteen (2002)
Our 16A squad travelled to the Dragons Den in Killorglin for an early Saturday morningkickoff with a few absentees due to illness , injuries & school trips.
Nevertheless we created all the chances in the first half but only converting one from TJ McMahon.

The Killorglin keeper was in fine form denying first TJ then a fine double save stopping Nathan Holden’s shot from point blank range. So after dominating the first half we only had a goal to show for all our good play.

Within five minutes of the restart John Carmody had struck a left legged rocket inside the post to double our lead.
Following more good play, Darragh Moriarty took the ball down controlled it & hit an unstoppable shot into the far top corner for what will surely be a goal of the season contender. Game over with thirty minutes to play or so we thought !!

Another top quality save again from a Darragh Moriarty goal bound shot seem to bring the Killorglin boys to life & they threw everything at us for the remainder of the game.
A defensive mix up led to their goal & when we conceded a penalty for a hand ball shortly after it looked like another Ballyhar was on the cards.

Up stepped Stephen Nix, our new keeper, from that famous Tralee sporting family to dive to his right & palm away the peno to ease the nerves. Despite a few missed chances at the other end & a couple more scares we saw out the final minutes for a much needed win.
Full time 3 – 1
Best for Park, Darragh Moriarty, Colin Walsh, John Carmody & MotM Andrew Murphy.

U16B:
Our 16B squad also down to the bare bones due to injury & sickness hosted Killarney Celtic B on that fantastic all weather pitch in Mounthawk Park.
We welcomed DJ Griffin back from a long injury & what an important part he played in the win making saves at vital times in the game.

The away game had seen Celtic win 4 nil at home in a comfortable victory so we knew that all the lads would have to battle for every ball to get something from the game. What we didn’t know was this was to be an absolute thriller of a battle from start to finish. Celtic took the lead early & the signs looked ominous again.

We were creating all the chances but some terrible finishing was keeping it scoreless before Michael Lally burst through the Killarney defense & hit an unstoppable shot which hit the underside of the bar bounced inside the line & came back out in a copy of the famous World Cup final goal in 1966. Luckily for us the eagle eyed Kevin saw it cross the line & awarded the goal.

After that we dominated the remainder of the half until a minute before halftime Michael Lally had struck a goal bound shot which crashed off the butt of the post & in the ensuing battle to win the rebound Michael received a straight red card.
So after all our fine play in the first forty minutes we would be down to ten men for the second forty.

At halftime we also had to withdraw Sean Sookarry who had become unwell during the first half leaving us two subs, one of whom was  carrying an injury, backs to the wall stuff !
HT 1 – 1

The second half will be remembered by the management for the battling qualities & never say die attitude show by all on the pitch as boys became men to create chance after chance with Liam Magee’s dribble from Centre back to shooting just over inside the Celtic box being a stand out moment.

Jordan Mason was a class act in midfield spraying passes all over the pitch & his midfield partner Kieran O Leary ran himself to a standstill. Liam & Peter Dineen played outstanding together at the back while Connor Kavanagh & Eoin McDonnell played probably their best game to date.

Even though a man down Luke Dennehy & Simon Moynihan covered both wings up & down without stopping for breath, launching attack after attack.

Ryan O Sullivan’s injury eventually got the better of him & Mark Roche worked tirelessly to provide an out ball when under pressure.
With two minutes of time remaining &  Celtic pressing high looking for a winning goal Kieran O Leary went on one final lung bursting run through the Celtic midfield & found himself on the edge of the box & with a premiership finish lifted the ball over the keeper & into the top corner to give our lads a much deserved three points.
FT 2 – 1
MotM Liam Magee & Jordan Mason.

Seniors
Our senior team had A company hence the five nil win over castle Man United goals coming from Mikey Burke getting himself a hat trick, Adam Ward and then own goal sealed an emphatic Win.

Well done to both Park U11 and LB Rovers teams for playing some excellent football in their two games in Ballybunnion last Saturday.

It was great for both teams to overcome early difficulties playing on grass  to produce two very even and exciting games of football.

Thanks to our hosts for providing their pitch for the fixture. Well done to captains on the day Sam Slattery and Martin McGivern who both did the club proud. Congratulations to Man of the match Eugene in the A fixture and joint m.o.t.m. Oliver Lata and Eoin Flaherty in the B fixture.

Perfect conditions on a Saturday afternoonat Christy Leahy park for a game of soccer were out under 11b squad took on listowel celtic. The tone was set from the off with the park boys producing some great attacking play which continued throughout the game. The defence when called upon was rock solid and composed.

A very special mention to liam O’Connell who made the man of the match decision an easy one with an outstanding goalscoring performance from centre midfield. Big thanks to listowel for travelling in for the game and who performed very well considering they were short on subs and who’s keeper was oustanding.

Under Fourteen (2004)

Under Sixteen (2002)
Our U16A team will travel to Killarney to play Killarney Celtic. Kick off is down for 10.30am.

U16 National Cup V Charleville

Our U16’s bowed out of the National Cup at the last 32 stage after a very poor second half performance saw the visitors score five unanswered goals at home on Saturday.
Having taken the lead after two minutes from our first corner of the game with a brave header from Terence Carmody, we dominated large part of the first half. Unfortunately we failed to use the strong breeze in our favour but were also unlucky on at least two occasions as John Carmody rattled the crossbar with the keeper stranded inside the first five minutes & later in the half when John’s goal bound shot ran along the face of goal.

Charleville also had chances in the half with Gavin Doody making a double save just before halftime but the visitors equalized just after when Gavin looked to have been fouled going for the ball from a corner.
HT 1 – 1

The second half was one way traffic for the most part & once Charleville went in front early from the restart they upped their game.

Two goals in four minutes finished the game as a contest & they saw out the game for a deserved victory on a final score line of 6 – 1 with the visitors centeforward scoring an absolute beauty into the top corner.

Credit to Colin Walsh, Andrew Murphy, Cian Purcell & our MOTM John Carmody who never stopped playing.

Also while we’re disappointed to be out of the competition, we had a great run &  it will benefit our lads in the long term as the standard is so high at this stage & our boys can see the level they need to reach.

Thanks to all the parents for providing food for the Charleville lads & also to the visitors for being so sporting in victory. We wish them well in the last sixteen.

We now await the winner of Killarney Celtic & Charleville to see who we will play in the Regional semis.

Youth Team (2001)

Munster Youth CupQuarter Final
Park FC 1 v 0 Ballingarry

Park deserved their narrow victory as they had the lions share of position and created the some good chances over the ninety minutes. Parks midfield three were on top thru out the game forcing Ballingarry into trying long range efforts that really never really tested Parks custodian Conor Hayes.Parks Jordan Barry and Aaron Ward forced Ballingarry keeper into acton but it was striker Conor O’Brien whom taught he had giving the Park the lead on thirty three minutes only to see his strike hit the underneath of the crossbar and shoot down hit the goal line and Ballingarry keeper cleared his line.
Second half Park were totally dominant with Adam Ward and JR Tshikato controlling midfield ,Parks Aaron Ward broke down the right wing beating two players and he picked out Conor O’Brien and his flick on fell to the incoming Adam Ward and he rifled the Park into the lead on the hour. Ballingarry tried hard to get back into the tie but Parks defense were resolute.Park will have to travel for semi final
Best for Park;JR Tshikato – Aaron Ward – Shane Jordan – James Sheehan
Man of Match;Adam Ward

Killorglin 3-0 Park FC

A cold but clear day greeted the Park FC Under 12Bs as they made the trip to Killorglin, brim-full of optimism.  But Park were to leave pointless as Killorglin struck three without reply.

If ever a scoreline didn’t reflect a game, this was it.

Park dominated the first half possession, peppering the Killorglin goal with shots aplenty.  Finn boomed a shot which the goalkeeper pawed at instinctively and it agonisingly dropped over the bar.  Eldion thundered another shot inches wide, while Odhran, Adam and William terrorised the Killorglin defence with their pace and crosses.  Park had six corners from which they went close and the defensive line of Sean Solomon, Zach and Jamie were mostly untroubled in the first half.

Killorglin only had one sniff in the first 30 minutes and they took it with style, their number 7 expertly lobbing the valiant outstretched hand of Sean Heaslip, our underemployed goalie.

In the second half the game was more even as Park pushed for an equaliser and Killorglin tried to hit us on the break.  Park brought on Sean Whelan and Mark both of whom made excellent contributions and Rex and Kevin also put in good shifts, but the difference between the sides can be summed up in two words: Aaron Doyle.

He was simply outstanding.

He got two further chances in the second half and buried them to complete a hat-trick. We look forward to the return match with Killorglin later in the year.

SFAI National Cup U-14
Villa FC 0 Park 2

A large contingent of supporters, parents and players made the long trip to Waterford city on Saturday for this last 32 National Cup tie. Villa FC are probably the biggest club in the South East and justifiably had high hopes for their young side.

However, this Park team have been playing well of late and they themselves harbour high hopes of another sustained run in this competition.

Park settled to their task early and created a good chance for Seán O’Connor whose shot produced a fine save from the big strong Villa keeper.

The resultant corner wasn’t cleared and another corner led to the first goal on six minutes. Colin Doody’s fine delivery was met by Josh Connolly who expertly finished to the Villa net.

Park continued to play the better football but with a series of frees being awarded to Villa it was inevitable that the tide would turn a little. The Park defense was resolute however and stood strong when pressure came on them.

Seán O’Connell in particular stood out and had a number of timely interventions to ensure Park kept their noses in front.

Park had further chances from Seán O’Connor and should probably have gone two ahead on the stroke of half time but Messiah Chirwa was denied by another fine save by the Scott Pearson in the Villa goals.

It remained 1-0 to the away side and they were certainly worth their lead.
Cillian Murphy’s introduction at the start of the second half created some consternation in the Villa defense and he had a number of chances to stretch the Park lead but his shots were blocked or saved by some last ditch heroics.

The game then got a little scrappy from a Park point of view and Villa got more room to play in the middle of the field. No doubt that the long journey and heavy pitch was now taking effect on young legs.

Villa created two good chances during this period but on both occasions Liam Carmody was quickly of his line to ensure both Villa forwards had little to aim for and their efforts went wide.
Conor Kerins in particular, the Sean’s, Hill and O’Connell, Messiah Chirwa and Colin Doody then upped their game a level to lift the siege.

Kerins may not be the biggest in stature but he has the heart of a lion and his continuous tackling and breaking up of quality Villa play was outstanding. Hill and O’Connell were immense at the back and further up the field Chirwa and Doody were combining well to put Park back in the driving seat.

Fifteen minutes into the second half came the deserved second goal. O’Connell and the hard working Cianan Cooney combined to create a shooting opportunity for Cooney and his half shot, half cross was met by Chirwa at the back post. His shot hit Doody on the way in and Park were two in front.

Thereafter Villa poured on the pressure but Luke O’Connell and Kieran O’Connor, who were again being tested continuously on their side, stood strong.

David Feeley, now on and buzzing created a couple of half chances for himself and for Chirwa but Park were denied a third. Samuel Aladesanusi had a good chance but was unfortunate the ball bobbled just before his strike while Ben Hanafin and Cian O’Neill entered the fray to close the game out for a Park team who ran out deserved winners of a really good game.

A huge thank you to all who travelled with the team, providing drives and fantastic backing. A special thank you also to Villa FC who provided a very warm welcome and were most gracious hosts before and after the game. Thanks also to our ball boys, Jamie and Shane and to our expert photographer Brenda Doody.

Danny Diggins and in particular Padraig McCannon have worked diligently with this team over the past few months and all of us involved in the team want to acknowledge their efforts. Take no notice of Colm Poga!

Finally, it was outstanding to see Christy Leahy make the long trip to Waterford to support the boys. A gentleman and great supporter of all things Park.

On a side note it was great to warm up on PST sports newly installed all-weather faculty in Villa. Perhaps the Tralee influence helped us off to the good start.

Squad
Liam Carmody, Samuel Aladesanusi, Seán O’Connell, Seán Hill, Kieran O’Connor, Conor Kerins, Colin Doody, Josh Connolly, Messiah Chirwa, Seán O’Connor, Cianan Cooney, Ben Hanafin, Luke O’Connell, Killian Murphy, David Feeley and Cian O’Neill.

Well done to both park U11 teams who played two great games against Camp earlier today. Great sportsmanship and skill was on display by both teams. The teams were captained by Ciaran O Connell and Richard Casey.

Congratulations to the Player’s MOTM Ryan Driscoll & Daniel Sheehy. Managers MOTM: Jamie McCarthy & Lee Wharton. Special thanks to Camp for travelling in to us to ensure the fixture wasn’t effected by the bad weather.

Under Twelve (2006)
On Saturday our u12A headed to Killarney to face Killarney Celtic. The game was less then two minutes old when a clearance was sliced in to our net to put us a goal behind.

Having been rattled by own goal we conceded again within two minutes following a bit of indecision in our back line.

At two nil after 4 mins into the game it’s a tough ask for any team to find their way back in to the game but the lads slowly found their feet and began to play some excellent football and had a couple of chances but the Celtic keeper stood firm. In the 20th minute, we were caught on the counter attack to make it three – nil, when it looked as if we were going to get a goal ourselves.

To be fair to the boys they dusted themselves down and went right back at it and got a goal though Justin O’Sullivan after great work from Andrew Kerins down the right. It was a much deserved after some great build up play. Three goals to one at half time and we believed that we were truly going to come back into the game.

Within a minute of the restart Celtic got a corner, a great delivery into the box, goalkeeper Oshìn got a good hand on to the cross but it fell kindly to the Celtic forward to tap home. Again the lads had it all to do at four goals to one but they showed some real character to keep going which is not easy when your losing by three goals.

We were had Celtic pinned back in their own half and we pulled a goal back when Jack Slattery’s shot was parried into the path of Justin who made no mistake with his emphatic finish.

Out lads grew in confidence with that goal and at for goals to two we were in control of the game. We got a corner which Jack Slattery put in and it show how made it’s way through a host of bodies and Ryan McMahon made no mistake when a cool finish.

The lads now were only a goal behind at four – three. We threw caution to the wind and pushed hard for the equaliser but to no avail. Celtic put the game to bed with two late goals to leave the final score at  six -three.

All Credit to the team for a great performance regardless of the score line.

Best on the day were Jack Slattery, Andrew Kerins and Seamus Kelly with Man of the match going to Justin O’Sullivan.

The Park u9s and the Park u10s came together this Saturday to play a series of challenge matches against each other at Christy Leahy Park. Both groups fielded 3 teams and the boys and girls gave a fantastic account of themselves as the games were played out in a great spirit. The big crowd watching the matches certainly enjoyed some wonderful skills and terrific goals in each game.

All of the players went home happy especially with the Christmas treats that Mary & Aisling in the club shop had for them.

Thanks to all of the coaches for coming together to run a great morning of soccer and thanks to Brandon McMahon and Pa Laide for helping us out as extra help was definitely required.

We hope to train on Saturday morningDecember 30th , parents will be notified in advance, check out our Facebook page for updates.

On behalf of the u9 & u10 coaches Happy Christmas to all of our players and their families. Make sure the kids do some soccer practice over Christmas!!

Well done to both teams for two great performances away to listowel celtic. Particlar mention goes to Jamie McCarthy and Eoin Faherty on putting in man of the match performances. Well done to all the U11A team and have a very merry Christms. Jerry, Randall & Dave

Our under 11 b squad hosted tralee dynamos at Christy Leahy park on Saturday in a very entertaining game which saw both sides give their all on a perfect day for soccer. Many chances were created and some solid defensive performances Made sure the game was tight right to the end. Highlight of the game was three worldly saves from man of the match Mark O’Connor.  Big thanks to dynamos players and coaches for a very enjoyable game of soccer.

Under 13(2005)
Our under thirteen A team travelled to Killorglin on Saturday. Having dominated the majority of the game and going ahead through Venis Jahiri in the first half we couldn’t get the second goal to kill the game off and we were punished in the last few mins when the hosts got a corner kick, we were only able to clear the ball to the edge of our box, and a  Killorglin player shot the ball which took a massive deflection over Richie Healy  into to our net. One all at the final whistle.

Our thirteen B team were at home to Mastergeeha. Steven Barrett with our goal which was enough to secure a one All draw to continue their unbeaten to five matches.

Under Fifteen (2003)
Our under fifteen A Team faced a tough away trip to Killarney Celtic in the fifteen Premier on Saturday. Despite trailing two-one as the game headed into the final stages David O’Callaghan stole a yard on the home defence to equalise. With Celtic looking like they would be happy with the draw at this stage, Cian Brosnan found the back of the net for the winner and get his second of the game. A great comeback by those young men. And victory means that the keep the pressure on at the top of the table!

Our under fifteen B team had a very good victory threw one victory over Windmill United. Goals from Adam Wharton and Mark Curtin getting two to keep up their fine form of late.

Youths (2000)

Our youth team played Killarney Celtic in the Munster Youth Cup Kerry Area Final in Mounthawk Park.

All pundits felt this final would be a tight encounter as both sides met a couple of weeks back in the FAI youth cup with the Tralee side claiming a narrow win out in Celtic Park.

Park ran out deserved winners in Mounthawk Park putting in a solid team performance with James Sheehan and Adam Ward controlling midfield , Parks Aaron Ward whipped in a great ball from the left wing that found the incoming Jordan Barry and his header rifled into top corner of the net with twenty three minutes gone.

Within ten minutes Conor O’Brien doubled Parks lead winning the ball from a loose clearance and he coolly lobbed the advancing Celtic keeper and five minutes later Conor again tried to lob the keeper only to see his effort drift wide of the post ,at the break Park with a two goal lead.

Celtic started the second half brightly and with only three minutes gone pounced on defensive mistake from Park to score at the near post and now game on.

Park management reacted by withdrawing their right back and bringing in attacking midfielder John Carmody and this change saw Park take total control of the game.
Park claimed back their two goal advantage on the hour with good work down the right from JR Tshikato and Conor O’Brien picking out Jordan Barry to score his second from close range and it was John Carmody scoring the fourth and insuring the win for the Park.Jordan Barry had some excellent chances to score his hat-trick but was not clinical enough.

Best for Park;James Sheehan;Adam Ward;Leon Shalemba;Shane Jordan;John Carmody
Star-Man;Jordan Barry
Squad
Conor Hayes-Shane Jordan-Leon Shalemba-Andrew Breen-Ben Falvey-JR Tshikato-Adam Ward-Aaron Ward-Conor O’Brien-Jordan Barry-James Sheehan-Kevin Brown

St Brendan’s Park FC u9s had a hectic schedule on Saturday as we traveled to Fenit to play against Fenit Samphires. Due to our squad size we took 20 players and left as many again at home as they prepare to face Camp Juniors next Saturday.

The 2 teams that went to Fenit played  2 matches against the hosts. We played the 7v7 format which worked very well. Both clubs enjoyed the afternoon. The players displayed great skill and determination in the 4 matches played on a cold December afternoon. The attitude from all players was exceptional and the players are a credit to themselves and their clubs. Many thanks to Fenit for inviting us out to play.

Meanwhile earlier on the same day the remainder of our u9 squad enjoyed a fantastic training session at Christy Leahy Park working on the 7v7 format. The players practiced well and will be in great shape for their trip to Camp next week. More matches will follow after Christmas and we all look forward to seeing this group of players continuing their hard work into 2018 and beyond.

Under Thirteen (2005)

St Brendans Park FC 2 – 0 Shelbourne AFC

The Park under 13 squad progressed to the last 32 in the National Cup after extra time against Shelobourne AFC of Limerick, the visit of Shelbourne provided a step up in class from the previous rounds and required the full squad to deliver a quality performance on the day.
The first half saw us dominate proceedings which stemmed from a very strong defensive performance by Sean McElligott, Ray McGrath and Obina Izehi.

This provided Michael Tansley with a platform to run the match from midfield with a fine display of passing both short and long as well as switching  the point of attack that caused the opposition huge problems.

The selfless running of both fullbacks Luke Casey and  Adam McDonagh meant that there was plenty of supply of ball to our two strikers Darragh Cunnane and Venis Jahiri as well as for the late runs into the box of Odhran Ferris and captain Callum O`Sullivan. Richard Healy’s performance in goals was assured which provided great confidence for the outfield players to go and preform. A comment after the match from the Shelbourne management team of ” there must have been a magnet in them goals” summed up the first half but unfortunately we just did not capitalize on this dominance.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first with us having the lions share of the position. The second half also saw  Shelbourne up their game and this provided a few chances for them which was dealt with by our keeper and defensive unit in a very professional manner.

The second half saw the introduction of Cian O`Gara for Michael Tansley, Cian’s introduction was to cause different problems for Shelbourne with his direct running and hard tackling. Jamie O`Shea was introduced for Callum O’Sullivan. Callum at this point had as they say “emptied the tank” for the cause. Jamies work rate provide a lift to the team at this point in the game.

With the clock ticking down Noah Townsend was brought in for Darragh Cunnane. Noah`s direct running at the opposition looked as if we could get a result in normal time but Shelbourne stood firm and seemed happy to see the game to extra time.

Extra time saw us break the dead lock, the runs been made in-behind the Shelbourne defense paid off as Noah Townsend’s pace saw him break free from the defensive attention he was getting from Shelbourne but as he bore down on their goal a late tackle from behind stopped him in his tracks on the edge of the box. The resulting free struck by Odhran Ferris gave the team a lead they fully deserved just before half time in extra time.

During the half time break some of the players talked of been in a similar situation last year and they collectively drew on this experience and resolved to see it out this time to the end, this shows a great maturity in lads so young.

Their resolve not alone saw them see the game out to the end but also seen Noah Townsend get our second goal of the game. This goal was well deserved for the team as they had worked tirelessly all day for each other.

Thanks to Shelbourne for been part of a very entertaining game for the supporters and we wish them well in their remaining league games.

To the team behind the team a big thank you for looking after our visitors, with sandwiches, teas, coffees and hot chocolates.

Squad on the day.
Richard Healy, Luke Casey, Darragh Cunnane, Odhran Ferris, Obina Izehi , Venis Jahiri, Adam McDonagh, Sean McElligott, Ray McGrath, Cian O’Gara, Jamie O’Shea, Callum O’Sullivan, Michael Tansley and Noah Townsend.

Man Of The Match; Sean McElligott

Our thirteen B team traveled to MEK in the league on Saturday. Having gone one nil up through Conor Cronin, MEK fought back to equalise.

At one each we had a great opportunity to take the lead when we were awarded a penalty but the joy was short lived as we missed the penalty.  Conor soon doubled his own goal tally and to put us back in the driving seat with a well timed finish. With time running out MEK equalised again and the game finished a two all draw.

Our U15A travelled to Ennis Co. Clare to face Tulla United in the Skechers SFAI Cup on Sunday and were narrowly beaten on penalties. The game finished level at full time with our lads shading the game but were unable to break down the hosts.

Deep in the second half extra time Tulla took the lead from a corner but the lads showed great character to equalise through Cian Brosnan to bring the  game to penalties. We end up losing 4-3 on penalties. Great team performance all round and very unlucky to not to be going into the open draw. Hard luck boys you did the club proud.

Under Sixteen (2002)

Park u14 2 – 2 Killarney Athletic

This was a game where the  Park lads played some great football, put some fabulous moves together, created lots of chances but finished the game with what was a frustrating draw.

Winter was definitely in the air when the game kicked off with the Park playing with the wind. It didn’t take long for the first chance of the game coming in the 2nd minute with Sean O’Connor striking a decent effort  over the crossbar. This was the first of many shots from a lot of different players that ended up going over the bar.

On 6 minutes Sean O’Connell had an effort saved. Only 2 minutes later the first goal of the game was scored when Colin Doody won a ball of the right, played a pass to David Feely who played an excellent through ball to Cianan Cooney who’s low cross was finished from close range by Cillian Murphy. 1-0 to the Park.

It wasn’t all one way traffic though and a long ball caught out the Park defence but Liam Carmody came off his line well to clear. The Park though were still creating some excellent chances. In the 22nd minute another fine pass by David led to an excellent strike by Cianan to make it 2-0 to Park. At this stage the game was there to be finished off but a mixture of crossbar, blocks and a lack of clinical finishing meant that the game went into HT 2-0.

Killarney Athletic had contributed to an exciting game in the first half and they made the game very interesting when in the 2nd minute of the second half a shot from distance put our defence in trouble and Athletic made it 2-1. The game was now in the balance and frantic at times. Sean O’Connor had a good effort off the crossbar which would have settled things again but in the 20th minute we conceded a soft free which was well finished to make it 2-2 and a game in which we should have been well ahead had now become one that we could lose. To be fair, the Park lads reacted really well in the last 10 mins, created some excellent chances, hit the crossbar again and had two gilt edged opportunities at the death but the ball just wasn’t going in.

So it finished 2-2 in a very enjoyable, exciting and frustrating match.

Youth Team (2001)

Fai Youth Cuo 2nd RoundKillarney Celtic 1 v 2 Park FC
This cup encounter was Parks toughest test of the season so far with both sides leaving it all on the pitch that saw Park advance to the third round with another away fixture v Listowel Celtic.

Park management need and must solve their slow starts to games and conceding early goals as they found themselves trailing after only eight minutes .The game was played at a high intensity with Park more creative but guilty of not punishing Celtic with Jordan Barry ,Conor O’Brien and Aaron Ward failing to convert some golden chances.

It was Parks captain Adam Ward in the thirty fifth minute that burst into the Celtic area and was tripped ,ref pointed to the penalty spot and it was Adam that converted the spot kick sending the Killarney keeper the wrong way , all level at the break.

Killarney started the opening ten minutes of the second half strongly pushing the Park back and winning four corners in a row but Parks defense stood strong and when you have Conor Hayes the best youth keeper in the county between the posts putting in a man of the match performance this instills confidence in his team.

Parks midfield duo Adam Ward and James Sheehan started to get a hold on midfield and Park took the lead in seventy fifth minute when David Oba down the right side of midfield found Parks striker Conor O’Brien with a defense splitting pass clinically finishing thru the legs of the advancing keeper.

The final ten minutes saw Park defend stalwartly from a Celtic side pressing for an equalizer and again it was Parks custodian Conor Hayes making a top class save at full stretch tipping the ball around the post for a corner in added time to see Park thru to the third round.

Under 12 (2006)
Our under twelve Teams have a fixture this weekend or under 12 is will play at home to Tralee Dynamos Kdl a while our under 12 B team will play Mastergeeha B team also at home.

Under 13(2005)
Two massive wins the weekend gone for  both our under 13 teams with the A team playing in in the national cup beating Ennis Town by 3-0 and our under 13 B team also played at home when they played Killarney Athletic B.
U13B Match report below.

What a beautiful morning for a game, no wind or rain, nice and bright and calm. Park under 13 B kicked off at 10.10 against Killarney Athletic and commanded things right from the start with lots of attacking football and striker Dylan Hobbart finding the back of the net after only 2 minutes. It was a sign of things to come as Park were playing in the Killarney half most of the time. At the 10 minute mark after lovely link up play Jack Slattery put Park 2 up. The onslaught continued and 5 minutes later Cillian made it 3. Two minutes later Dylan scored his second. Shortly after that Rodrigo Pinho the smallest player on the pitch scored a fantastic flying header, the goal of the game and the season so far. What Dylan was able to do Jack could do as well and scored his second after 25 minutes. It was time for a break and Park came in at half time 6-0 up.

Much of the play was in the Killarney half of the pitch leaving little for keeper Conor Foley to do but when called upon he was excellent coming for the ball when he should have and staying on his line  at the right times.

Things were a little slower in the second half and a new attitude by Killarney saw them have some of the play and a mix up with Parks keeper and full back saw them snatch a goal back. Having conceded a goal Dylan decided it was time for his hat trick and with a good solo run from the half way line got it. That turned out to be the last of the scoring in the game. It was a pleasure to watch the team work, the one twos and the cohesive movement.

Well done to everyone, another 3 points in the bag.

Under Eleven(2007)

All three of our under eleven teams are playing neighbours and old rivals Tralee Dynamos at three o clock in Christy Leahy Park. It should be a great spectale all support is welcome.

Under Twelve (2006)

With our under twelve A team having no game this weekend it was up to our B team to represent the 2006 age group with a home fixture to camp Juniors. here is the match report;

Park FC (Under 12 B) 1 – Camp 3

On a rain-soaked pitch, Park welcome league leaders Camp to their home turf.  After a rousing pre-match speech from Manager Paul, Park took to the pitch with a defensive line-up, with Park aware that Camp had blasted seven goals past one of their leading challengers, earlier in the campaign.

Park’s mighty midfield quartet of Finn, Eldion, Odhran and Sean Heaslip, battled hard, with Finn racing through one-on-one only for Camp FC’s man-of-the-match Carl Mitchells, to make one of several outstanding saves.

Camp dominated the early exchanges with Zach, Cillian and Rory on their toes constantly to keep them out and they deservedly took the lead with a low strike from close range to lead 1-0 at the break which squeezed past Mateusz in goal. Lone striker Adam, and William, when he replaced him, ploughed a lonely furrow, chasing down ball after ball.

Park had the advantage of the wind in the second half and brought on Sean Solomon, Trey, Marc, Rex and Sean Whelan as both teams came close in an end-to-end battle.

Sean Heaslip had taken over between the sticks, but the turning point in the game came when Cillian put his hands up to protect his face from a fierce shot and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Camp duly tucked away their second goal of the tie.

Moments later as Park pressed for a goal to get back into the game, with the rampaging Jacob, making his debut for Park, tearing up and down the wing, Camp broke the off-side trap and slotted home a third.

With seconds to go the referee again pointed to the spot. Jacob had been hauled down following a long through ball from Zach.

The exceptional Carl Mitchells got one hand to the ball, but the power of Jacob’s spot kick made sure it nevertheless rattled into the back of the net. It finished 3-1 to Camp. A thorougly entertaining game, full of positives for Park FC against a strong Camp team who ran out deserved winners on the day.

Under Thriteen (2005)

Our thirteen A team have no fixture this weekend due to them being a round ahead in the National Cup. Our thirteen B team are hosting Ballyheigue in Christy Leahy Park.

Under Fourteen (2004) Our under fourteen A team had a big win in the Skechers SFAI Cup at the weekend hers the match report;

SFAI National Cup
Park 7 Charleville 1

After twenty minutes of this game nobody would have believed the score would end up as it did, with a pretty easy win for Park.
Although Park had fallen behind to a counter attack goal after nineteen minutes, the boys were playing really well. Fast, accurate passing allied to a really strong work rate had given them a vice like grip on the game.

Cianan Cooney, who had an excellent game throughout, equalised, when Charleville failed to clear Seán O’Connor’s shot, just five minutes after going behind.

The Charleville keeper then kept the scores level until half time as he produced fine saves from Kieran O’Connor and two more from Cooney.

The second half started with Park once again in the ascendancy and firing a few shots over as they tried valiantly to set their sights a bit lower.

Excellent interplay between Seán O’Connell and Cianan Cooney, after  ten minutes of the half, had Cooney just over with a right foot piledriver but soon afterwards he made amends.

He shimmied past a Charleville defender before hitting a sweet drive to the top of the Charleville net. Two one to Park and they were still playing well within themselves.
Ben Hanafin set up Messiah Chirwa five minutes later but his shot was saved by the young Cork custodian. A third was surely in the offing and it duly arrived on twenty minutes.

A cross into the box was met by the in-rushing Josh Connolly to score the goal that finally broke the Charleville resistance.

Kieran O’Connor with a superb free kick, Conor Kerins (who was outstanding all day) from 30 yards, Seán O’Connell from a similar distance and Josh Connolly from close range put the icing on the cake. All sixteen players were excellent and continue to improve.

There will be tough challenges ahead but sometimes you just have to be happy with a fine performance from some excellent young players. This was one of those times.
Thanks to all the supporters, parents and especially the club members who had the pitch and facilities in excellent order today. Thanks also to the Charleville team and management for a very sporting game.

Squad:
Liam Carmody, Samuel Aladesanusi, Seán O’Connell, Seán Hill, Kieran O’Connor, Conor Kerins, Colin Doody, Josh Connolly, Messiah Chirwa, Seán O’Connor, Cianan Cooney, Ben Hanafin, Luke O’Connell, Killian Murphy, David Feeley and Cian O’Neill.

Under Fifteen (2003)

Both our under fithteen teams are at home this weekend in their respective leagues both kick off times are at 11.30am in Christy Leahy park. Our A team play league leader Camp Juniors while our B team host Ballyheigue Ath all support is greatly appricated.

Under sixteen(2002)

Our under sixteen A and B teams both braved the wintery conditions the weekend here are the match  reports;

U16 National Cup:
Our 16s had a tough encounter at home on Saturday in the National Cup against a very good Nenagh side with a last thirty two place at stake & also a Munster semifinal up for grabs.

Conditions were terrible with wind & rain throughout the eighty minutes but both teams tried to play passing football nevertheless.
We started the brighter dominating most of the first thirty minutes but really should have had two or three goals for our efforts.

We did however get one on eleven minutes after a beauty of a through ball from Darragh Moriarty sent John Carmody on his way & John made no mistake with a cool finish.

It was no more than we deserved after John had skinned the cross bar, Mervyn had seen his shot saved & Darragh Moriarty had seen his goal ward shot sail just over with the Nenagh keeper beaten.

Some days you just can’t buy a goal & when Luke Dennehy’s cross clipped the cross bar, again with the Nenagh keeper beaten, it looked like faith was against us.

Darragh again shot just over from outside the box & Nenagh couldn’t get up the field but when the did they found Cian Purcell, Greg Scanlon, Nick Izehi, Andrew Murphy & Luke Dennehy a wall of red & black.

The final ten minutes of the half saw the Tipp lads have their first real shot before a punt upfield wasn’t dealt with by our defence & the final touch coming off one of our heads for a killer equaliser right on halftime. All our good work cancelled out.

Nenagh came out fighting in the second half & should have taken the lead inside the first ten minutes but we managed to clear our lines.

Then came the match changer after another attack on the right wing & a cross was met first time on the volley with our Captain Devon Burns making  a double ‘Darren Randolph’ like save on the line which could have changed the course of the game.

Terence Carmody moved from the wing into left back with TJ McMahon going out wide & Robert Kerins coming on for Darragh Moriarty who had covered every blade of grass on both wings.

Nathan Holden was taking the fight to Nenagh in the middle of the Park & eventually had to be replaced after seventy five minutes with Tide bringing a fresh pair of legs into the centre.

The changes gave us a foothold again & TJ was starting to show how dangerous he can be with a shot across the goal followed by a volley which agonisingly hit the side netting.

With three minutes of normal time time left & extra time looming large TJ cut in from the left turning inside the Nenagh defender before coolly slotting the ball into the net to spark wild celebrations on & off the pitch.

After two very long minutes of injury time the final whistle came at last & we can now look forward to at least another two games against some of the best teams in the country.
FT 2 – 1
MotM John Carmody

Fenit Samphires 2 : 4

On a blustery morning the breeze was going to have a part to play & that’s exactly what happened when a shot from just inside our half floated in over DJ Griffin after 5 minutes to give the home side the lead.

We went 2-1 up through Sean scoring two. DJ had pulled off two top class saves to keep us in front in the game with Fenit making full use of the strong breeze.

Fenit were unlucky not to have another goal before the half time whistle after a shot ran along our goal line before being clearedDespite having the advantage of the breeze in the second half, which we rarely used, it was fifty – fifty for the most part.

Kieran O Leary & Jordan Mason battled for every ball in the centre of the park, while our defence was tight with Peter Dineen & Man of the Match Liam Magee composed on the ball.

Ryan, Cian & Connor Kavanagh all dealt with the attacking wingers Fenit threw at us & got forward when needed.  With fifteen minutes to go Sean was reintroduced in midfield for Jordan Mason who ran himself into the ground & with his first touch found the net for his fourth of the day.

Simon Moynihan gave his best performance to date on the wing, working tirelessly up & down the pitch. Fenit completed the scoring in injury time when ex Park boy Gavin Burrows scored late in injury time. Great credit to our keeper DJ who played a full half with a serious hand injury, pulling off some fine saves.
Full time 2 – 4

Park FC 5 v 1 Castleisland Afc

Park controlled the game but were guilty of been wasteful in front of goal and were made to pay when Castleisland were awarded a dubious penalty in the forty fourth minute which they converted  to take a shock lead into the break.
Park management made a couple of positional changes for the second half and moving James Sheehan from right back to midfield proved to be the key as Park pressed Castleisland and totally dominated the second half , netting five goals with captain Adam Ward hitting a brace and one apiece coming from Aaron Ward , JR Tshikato and Jordan Barry.

Under 11 (2007)

Our under eleven A boys finally got their schoolboy career going at the weekend when the headed to Ballybunion to play LB Rovers. Some happy boys who more than happy to show off their skills.

Under 12 (2006)

Our U12B team will host Camp Juniors at 10am Saturday morning.

Under 13 (2005)

Our under thirteen teams are both were victorious last  week with the A team defeating Aisling Annacotty B by six goals to nil in the Skecher SFAI Cup and our B team narrowly shading  Kilorglin B with that game finishing three goals to two in Christy Leahy Park.

It started out a nice morning in Christy Leahy Park for the under 13 game between our U13B’s and Killorglin B but just after kick off at midday it got very windy. We tipped off against the wind and had the upper hand from the beginning with Dylan Hobbart scoring after just 3 minutes. We were playing lovely football with some great moves cutting through the middle of the Killorglin defence.

However 5 minutes later a kick out by the Park keeper Keith Cotter, who had a great game, was caught by the wind and fell to the Killorglin attack and they made the most of it to equalise. Half way through the half, excellent play in midfield saw the ball played forward and between Dylan and Rodrigo Pinho who worked well together, Rodrigo stuck the ball in the Killorglin net to make it 2-1.

We continued to dominate the game with excellent play in mid field, Sean Moynihan played a super game running all over the field, working hard and winning the ball. Just before half time however, Killorglin equalized to leave the score 2-2 at the break.

The weather turned bad for the start of the second half with very heavy rain. We again controlled the play and put in an excellent display and were rewarded with the winning goal scored by Conor Cronin 10 minutes from the end to leave the scoreline at 3-2 in our favour.

The whole team are to be congratulated, they played as a unit, great contributions from everyone involved, Eoghan Bradshaw, Tadgh Foley, Dean Mc Elligott, Jack Slattery, Danial O Connor, Cillian O Mahony, Jamie Williams, Ghazi and Ade.

Well done guys

While our B team took on Windmill United on Saturday moring in the KDL narrowly being beaten by two goals to one.

Some great performances on the day by the lads with Leonit Salihat having a great game taking home the man of the match reward while his twin brother Leonard scored the goal.

Our under thirteen teams are both out this week with the A team haeding to Limerick to play Aisling Annacotty B in the Skecher SFAI Cup and our B team host Kilorglin B in .Christy Leahy Park.

Under 14 (2004)

Park FC 0 Killorglin 0

Rustiness can be defined as impaired by neglect, disuse, or lack of practice and that certainly seemed to be the case for the Park boys in their game against Killorglin on Saturday. Despite playing with a sizable amount of possession the final finish just wasn’t there.

It was however, obvious to everyone that both sides will come on a lot for the game.
Perhaps it was a bit of rustiness on the Killorglin side that saw them fail to open the scoring after twenty seconds.

Park actually kicked off but lost possession easily and suddenly Killorglin were presented with a one v one. Thankfully it was put past the out rushing keeper but also past the post.
It took Park some time to settle and while there were some excellent passages of play, there were also times when better decisions could have been made. Ben Hanafin and Seán Hill were doing well at the back for the Park but overall the spark just seemed to be missing.

Ciaran Cooney had a great chance midway through the half after good work from Sean O’Connor and Colin Doody but his accurate low shot was well saved by the Killorglin keeper.

At the other end Killorglin had a free well dealt with by Liam Carmody. While it was mostly Park possession, they just couldn’t apply the necessary finish. A wonderful move including five different players almost ended with Messiah Chirwa opening the scoring but he was denied by some good Killorglin defending.

Colin Doody was creating problems for Killorglin and chances for Park from his position on the right. One of these should probably have been converted just before half time but again bodies were in the way and the lack of matches was showing.

Sean Hill had an outstanding match at the back for Park and he continued his fine first half performance with several important interceptions in the second as Killorglin opened the half with more possession and some half chances.

The best Park effort on goal in the second half was a pile driver from Cianan Cooney, while David Feeley was just a whisker away from connecting with an excellent Seán O’Connell delivery late in the half.

Nil all it finished and while it felt like two points dropped for the Park boys, they will have to be very happy with some of their passing and play.

All of the lads worked exceptionally hard and without doubt, will improve immeasurably as the season continues. Hopefully the rustiness has been removed.

Training continues on Monday and Thursday nights.

Thanks to all the parents who as always were there in numbers to support the team and to Colm McLoughlin for setting up the pitch.

Squad:
Liam Carmody, Samuel Aladesanusi, Seán O’Connell, Seán Hill, Kieran O’Connor, Conor Kerins, Colin Doody, Josh Connolly, Messiah Chirwa, Seán O’Connor, Cianan Cooney, Ben Hanafin, Luke O’Connell, Killian Murphy, David Feeley and Cian O’Neill.

Under 12 (2006)

On Saturday last our U12A team travelled to Killarney Athletic in the Skechers SFAI Cup 3rd round. In the opening quarter of the first half it was pretty frantic with both side looking threatening.

We had the better of possession and we were unfortunate not to take the lead when a lovely one-two down our right had side between Aaron Powell and Andrew Kerins saw Aaron through with the keeper and his shot was well saved at the near post from the Athletic goalkeeper.

Athletic thought they had an opportunity to score when their striker raced through on Oisin O’Halloron’s goal and as he was lining up his shot in came Immanuel Manu with a wonderfully timed sliding tackle to spare his keeper having to be called into action keeping the game scoreless.

We began to control the game more and more. In goal Oshìn O’Halloran hadn’t much to do with Immanuel Manu & James Fisher dominant in defence winning the ball back in what seemed almost every occasion that they faced a direct opponent, with Andrew Kerins(right) & Ciarán Kavanagh(left) bombing up and down the wings at every opportunity, our midfield trio of Nathan Aherne,Bruno Browzy & Aaron Powell controlling the middle third of the pitch and with Seamus Kelly Up front causing a lot of problems to the Athletic defence with his direct running towards the Athletic goal.

As legs began to tire towards the end of the half we replaced Aaron and Bruno for Jay Jay Olajitan & Jack Slattery in the 24th min. A tactical switch was needed with Seamus dropping into midfield to replace Bruno and Jack going in as the no.10 for Aaron which meant Jay Jay slotting in up front.

With less then a minute of the changes we reaped an instant reward, Ciarian Kavanagh and Seamus Kelly combined down the left to set Jay Jay away, he bust through towards the Athletic goal at a almost light speed with the defenders trailing in his wake, when he arrived on the edge of the box he had the composure and presence of mind to look inside to see Jack who’s movement was superb to find a pocket of space and Jay Jay’s perfectly waited pass to was finished expertly by Jack to put us in front with a fantastic fluid move.

We pressed for a second goal before half time, and almost got one when Seamus forced a corner. Jack from our right took the corner right footed, it was almost the inch perfect he floated the ball over to the back post only to see his delivery cannoned off the up right to go agonisingly wide and see us going in at halftime with a deserved 1-0 lead.

At half time we introduced Justin O’Sullivan for Nathan , who had pick up a knock. Mid way through the second half Justin received the ball out wide on the left just in the opposition half he drove at the first on coming defender jinking past him in towards the corner of the box as the second defender approached Justin turned on the style, he did a 360 roulette like Zidane in his prime, as the next defender tried in vain to win the ball Justin with the faintest of touches flicked the ball past him to set himself right in the top of the box and with composure well beyond his years gave the Athletic keeper no chance with his shot back across goal as it looked like he was going to shoot to the keepers near side. A superb individual goal from Justin that put us in the driving seat.

Athletic were still looking dangerous on the counter attack and they forced Oisin into a superb save with his right foot to consolidate his clean sheet. We almost got a third from Jack, Justin again drove in from the left hand side when he was up ended to win a free kick about 20 yards from goal, Jack free kick was perfectly waited strike had the keeper beaten and seemed to be heading towards the top corner only for an Athletic defender to head it on to the cross bar and out for a corner.

A wonderful effort on goal followed by a brilliant defencive clearance to keep the scoreline at 2-0 and that how the game finished.
A great team performance against a good Killarney Athletic team. We had massive performances from Andrew, Jack, Seamus & James. with Immanuel just shading the Man of the Match.

With that being said we’d like thanks the parents of our boys for their brilliant support and Killarney Athletic for the hospitality with a fine spread laid on for us afterwards in their club house.

Team: Oisin O’Halloran (gk), Andrew Kerins, Ciaran Kavanagh, James Fisher, Immanuel Manu, Nathan Aherne, Bruno Browzy, Aaron Powell, Seamus Kelly.
Subs: Marcus Connolly, Sam Fitzgerald, Ryan McMahon, Jack Slattery, Justin O’Sullivan & Jay Jay Olijatian

St Brendan’s Park FC Under 12Bs 3-2 Listowel Celtic Under 12Bs

St Brendan’s Park FC Under 12 Bs took the field against a strong, determined Listowel Celtic side, who started impressively and bossed the first 15 minutes of the game in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

Our defence held firm, with man-of-the-match Rory showing excellent control and touch, backed up by Sean Solomon, Killian and Zach to neutralise Celtic’s rampaging raids. When Celtic did break through, Sean Heaslip was immense in goal.

But we grew into the game, helped by a speedy midfield of Odhran, William and Trey while captain for the day, Eldion, was everywhere in his defensive midfield role, marshalling the defence while inspiring the attack.

With 10 minutes to the half time break, Odhran converted a through ball from Eldion to put us 1-0 up at the break. Coach Paul was full of encouragement at half time, but early in the second half Celtic slipped Park’s offside trap and equalised with a neat finish from their centre forward.

We poured forward in search of a goal and five minutes later it came, Odhran neatly finishing for his second of the game after great movement from attackers Marc and Adam. The game was now incredibly open, with attacks flowing from end to end and the enthusiastic crowd roaring on their charges.

Celtic pushed for an equaliser and camped out for long periods in our  half, rattling the crossbar with a thunderbolt of a shot, but from a long though ball from Zach on our next attack, Trey found himself with only the goalkeeper to beat and did so with some style to make it 3-1.

Celtic got a goal back in the dying embers of the game and pushed hard for a leveller in the final few seconds, but it was not to be and we held on for the win in a cracking game.

Under 16 (2002)

U16 Sketchers SFAI Cup

Our 16’s travel to Limerick city on Saturday to play Caherdavin Celtic in the National Cup.
We started the brighter with John Carmody pulling a shot just wide within the first ten minutes & Mervyn following up a few minutes later with another shot across the face of Celtics goal.
A cross from John Carmody in the twenty-sixth minute just missed both Tide & Mervyn inside the box but Terence was following up to finish at the back post.
Within a minute we had doubled our lead as a pinpoint Devon Burns kick out found Mervyn on the last defenders shoulder & once he controlled the ball it was only going one place & that was bottom corner of the net for a fantastic finish.
Celtic replied inside three minutes after we failed to clear a ball on the edge of the box & it was no more than they deserved after a number of chances including one bicycle kick which thankfully sailed over Devons crossbar. Nathan Holden played the pass of the day through the Limerick lads midfield to put John Carmody in on goal but again his shot went inches wide.
Halftime 2 – 1
After fifteen minutes of the restart Terence turned provider after a lovely pass into the box for Mervyn to side foot in. A minute later John once again had to watch his shot drift wide after rolling across the goal line & somehow stay out. Our defence was well on top with Nick & Cian rock solid while Andrew Murphy & Terence Carmody tormented Celtic with their attaching runs from full back.
The final score came on twenty nine minutes of the half when Andrew picked out Mervyn with a beauty & Mervyn finished coolly for his hat-trick.
A great team performance by all with Mervyn picking up the Man of the Match award.
Thanks to Caherdavin Celtic for the hospitality with a fine spread laid on for us afterwards in their club house.

U16B

Our 16B team travelled out to Killarney on Thursday night to play their B’s & we came home empty handed after a three nil defeat. We probably deserved a goal at least for our efforts but Celtic deserved the three points after a very good team display.

Best on the night were Jordan Mason, Robert Kerins, Luke Dennehy, Liam Magee & Greg Scanlon. Next up is a home game versus Mastergeeha.
Under 17 (2001)

Our under seventeen will take on Killarney Athletic in the Denny under seventeen league at 2pm on Saturday @ Chrisy Leahy Park

Youths (2001)

.
Denny Youth LeaguePark FC 2 : 1 Castleisland

Park were made to work hard to claim all three points in their second league outing.
Castleisland took an early lead on twelve minutes with a snap shot from the edge of the area beating the Park keeper Jack Rogers low to his left hand post.

Park were closed down quickly every time they got on the ball and were forced into long range efforts from Adam Ward and Leon Shalemba by a resilient Castleisland defense and went into the break with a deserved lead.

Park management made positional changes for the second half and brought in Aaron Ward on the right side these changes and higher tempo from the Park players saw them dominate the game. The break thru for the Park came twenty minutes into the half with Jordan Barry breaking down the left and cutting the ball back to Conor O’Brien and he guided the ball low under the advancing keeper.

Park were now totally dominant and wave after wave of attack it was Jordan Barry again gave Park the lead scoring at the back post with a bullett of a header in the seventy fifth minute.Park shut up shop for the final ten minutes and overall deserved the win,
Best for Park ;Jack Donahue – Jordan Barry – Adam Ward – Aaron Ward – Leon Shalemba
Man of Match Shane Jordan
Senior team
Our senior team had a hard earned three points in the Denny division 1B on Sunday last when they faced Castlegregory Celtic in Christy Leahy Park. Goals from Donagh O’Brien & Adam Ward. Man of the Match was Graham O’Neill

U15 Premier League

Inter Kenmare 1 Park 2

Our U15A made the long trip to Kenmare on Saturday morning last with hopes of back-to back victories following their National Cup win a fortnight ago.  Shorn of the services of John O’Connor, Earnan Ferris and Adam Sheehy through injury, the club’s U14s helped out and Messiah Chirwa, Cianan Cooney, Colin Doody and Ben Hanafin were drafted in to bolster the squad, which also featured new signing, keeper Gavin O’Brien.

We started well and were very comfortable in possession, especially when building from the back, where James Charles was very accurate in possession and he was ably supported by Marc Brick and Adam Walker who were very solid throughout.  Leon Gallagher and Jack Twamley were controlling midfield, with Dan Fisher and Sean Kedzierski raiding down the flanks and David Callaghan a threat in behind the homesters defence.  The pressure paid off when a typical Park move split the Inter defence and when the ball broke to Cianan Cooney 12 yards out, he smashed in high into the net to give the Tralee lads a deserved lead.  Kenmare refused to buckle however and were right back in the game shortly after, when a long-range shot eluded Gavin O’Brien to level matters.  It was nip and tuck from there to half time although Park had just about regained the initiative with the introduction of Chirwa, Doody and Hanafin.

On the resumption, Park regained control, particularly with the introduction of Darragh Walsh into central defence where his pace and strength were clearly evident.  This also released warrior captain Ryan Guerin into midfield where he immediately stabilized proceedings and was complimented by the re-introduction of Gallagher who started to pick holes in the Kenmare defence with his range of passing, which continually released the dangerous Doody down the right flank.  Matt Healy also entered the fray and gave the visitors another option down the opposite wing.

The pressure finally told when Chirwa picked out the mercurial Cooney’s superbly timed run with an exquisite pass inside the box and he made no mistake to make it 2-1 to Park.  In fact, Cooney was only denied a hat-trick when his 20-yard shot came back off the crossbar with the keeper beaten.  To their credit, Inter never gave up and pressed to the finish, but with Walsh rock-solid, Charles and Hanafin steadfast while also carrying the ball out of defence and Twamley and Walker back in the action to reinforce the rearguard, Park saw the game out impressively to claim the spoils.

Park: O’Brien, Walker, Charles, Guerin, Brick, Twamley, Gallagher, Kedzierski, Cooney, Fisher, Callaghan, Walsh, Healy, Hanafin, Chirwa, Doody

Special thanks to Ken, Dominik, John Walker, Con Healy, Andy “coffee” Fisher and Denis ”The Boxer” Hanafin for providing transport.

Under 12 (2006)

St. Brendan’s Park FC U12A 5 : 1 Inter Kenmare U12A
Our U12 A-Team entertained Inter Kenmare on Saturday under perfect conditions. After a slow start a wicked deflection give the opponents a One nil lead. We responded with some great play resulting with Jack Slattery rounding the keeper to level the score going into half time at 1-1 .Two excellent quick fire goals from Jay Jay not long after the restart put Park 3-1 up and well in control. Another great goal from Jack Sattery and also a fabulous through-ball for Jay Jay to complete his hat-trick with a fine finish to put us 5-1 up and the game to bed.

A great all-round team performance with notable mentions of Andrew Kerins, Nathan Aherne, Jack Slattery, Jay Jay and a top performance from our ever reliable keeper Oshìn O’Halloran.

Killarney Athletic U12B 2 : 2 St. Brendan’s Park Fc U12B

St Brendan’s Park FC Under 12 Bs took on the might of Killarney Athletic Under 12 Bs in a thrilling contest on Saturday morning.

We began edgily with Killarney Athletic dominating the early exchanges and after twenty minutes Athletic deservedly went in front with the ball prodded home in a goalmouth scramble.  The goal encouraged Athletic who pressed hard for a second, but we didn’t lose their shape and their solid defence of Finn, Rory, Zach and Cillian and Matuaz in goal held firm to keep us in it at half-time against a team that had averaged 4 goals per game in their previous outings.

“Keep believing, we can still do this,” was the cry from team coach Paul, as we began to settle and come more into the game.  Sean Heaslip started to hare down the wing and deliver dangerous crosses into the box, while Trey, captain for our first game, Sean Whelan, Jamie and Adam battled hard to convert, but it was the skill of Eldion drilling into the corner which brought us level.

Following our equaliser the action swung from end-to-end with the enthusiastic crowd roaring on their respective teams.  Athletic, speedy on the counter attack, lashed a shot against the post, while we at the other end thundered a shot off the bar, before Athletic regained the lead following a fine strike.  With William, Odhran and Adam now pouring forward in search of a leveller, it fell to the dancing feet of Mohammed, our man-of-the-match, to score the equaliser.

Both sides pushed hard for a winner but it was not meant to be and the two teams shook hands at the end, honours even.

Under 13 (2005)

Both our under thirteen teams are playing this weekend with our A team at home to Killarney Athletic and our B team make the short trip to Fenit.

Under 14 (2004)

Tralee Dynamos 0 Park FC 7

Park U14 A’s had their first league game of the season and were anxious to start with a victory. While the match was an away game the journey was short with the opposition being our close neighbours Tralee Dynamo’s.

It was a beautiful morning for soccer and the pitch was in really good condition considering the rain that had fallen recently.

The early exchanges were even with Dynamos working very hard around the middle of the pitch to stop Park from getting any real flow in their game. The first opportunity fell to Colin Doody from a ball from the left from Cianan Cooney.

His right footed shot was cleared off the line. Chances were proving hard to come by but when the ball fell to Sean O’ Connor in the 13th minute outside the box, he stuck an accurate effort into the bottom corner leaving the keeper with no chance.

Park settled down after that and in the 17th minute a corner delivered by Colin was superbly finished by Messieh Chirwa to make it two up to the Park. Set pieces were proving to be our best attacking platform and in the 31st minute a well worked corner between Colin and Ben Hanafin, from which Ben produced an excellent delivery to the back post which was finished from close in by Cianan to make it 3-0 at half time.

The closest that Dynamos had come in the first half was from a couple of free kicks which were dealt with well by our defence.

We made some changes for the second half and early on a couple of those changes Cillian Murphy and David Feely combined well to play the ball through to Colin on the angle of the box who finished coolly into the corner of the net to make it four to the Park.

The Park were well on top now and following good work by Messieh in closing down the keeper he played the ball to Sean O’Connell who finished to make it 0-5. It could have been six when Messieh found himself with a goal opportunity of his own in the 19th minute but headed just wide.

It was six not much later when a Sean O’Connor cross fell to Cillian who finished expertly. The final score and the icing on the cake was a superb individual effort from Cianan late in the game.

It was a good result but we know there is much to improve as the season progresses. Well done to the lads.

Squad:
Liam Carmody, Samuel Aladesanusi, Seán O’Connell, Seán Hill, Kieran O’Connor, Conor Kerins, Colin Doody, Josh Connolly, Messiah Chirwa, Seán O’Connor, Cianan Cooney, Ben Hanafin, Luke O’Connell, Killian Murphy, David Feeley and Cian O’Neill.

St. Brendan’s Park Fc U16A 7 : 2 Killarney Athletic U16A

We eventually got our league campaign off to a flying start at home to Killarney Athletic on Saturday with a 7 – 2 victory & even though the margin seemed comfortable it was anything but as the Athletic lads battled until the end with 10 men for much of the second half.

After a very slow start we managed to string some passes together before Mervyn went on a run into the box leaving all in his wake before firing an unstoppable shot to the net for the opening score after fifteen minutes.  Three minutes later John Carmody let rip  from outside the box for surely a contender  for goal of the season to put us two up. Michael Lally then conceded a peno to give the Athletic lads a lifeline before halftime.

Another lovely move involving a Mervyn & John one-two had John score his second of the half to leave us three one up at the break.

That lifeline however lasted just five minutes after Athletics keeper tripped Terence Carmody in the box giving ref Willie Gorman no option but to show him a straight red & Terence’s peno was saved by the sub keeper.  Terence had made amends five minutes later with a last touch to his brother goal bound shot to claim the goal. Devon Burns made some fine one on one saves to keep our lead intact while Nick Izehi & Cian Purcell were rocks in defence.

In the centre of the pitch Nathan Holden & Elliot Lynch were winning tackles all over the place while at left back Luke Dennehy looked very comfortable on the ball & provided plenty of options for Darragh Moriarty to drive up the wing.

TJ McMahon came off the bench at halftime to add to the scoring with a lovely finish before Athletic rattled the net for the second time with an unstoppable free from outside the box after we gave away a needless foul. Eventually John Carmody finished off his hat-track after rattling the crossbar earlier with a fine finish with his right. Not to be outdone the midfield dynamo Nathan Holden finished the scoring to leave the final score 7 – 2.

We wish TJ & Jack Kirby speedy recoveries from their injuries, get well soon lads !

Men of the match: John Carmody & Elliot Lynch.

Tralee Trophy World Under Div. 2

St. Brendan’s Park Fc U16B 3 : 2 Fenit Samphires

Our 16 B’s recorded their second win of the league after a hard fought win against an ex-Park loaded Fenit on Saturday evening on a score line of 3 – 2. Robert Kerins opened the scoring after twelve minutes after the Fenit keeper had made a fine double save. Straight from the tip off we won back the ball & Jacob Radulescu hit the net for our second in less than a minute. Between this & halftime we could have had three or four more but for some last gasp saves & poor finishing but Slywester Trafny eventually getting our third before the break with a neat turn & shot.

It wasn’t however all one way traffic as Fenit came close on a number of occasions but for DJ Griffin making at least three smart saves & Ryan O Sullivan clearing off the line.  Liam Magee & Peter Dineen had a lot to do but dealt with the job magnificently through out. Conor Kavanagh & Ryan both played outstanding & ran themselves into the ground.

The second half was backs to the walls stuff as Fenit threw the kitchen sink at us & on fifty minutes got what they deserved with a good finish. Within ten minutes it was three two after a free deceived DJ to leave us  hanging on. Despite both sides having a number of chances,  some very good chances, that was the way it finished.

But for the brilliant display by Jordan Mason & also Liam Magee in centre mid in the second half & Robert Kerins who played in about four different positions we surely wouldn’t have come away with three points. At last the full time whistle blew & our lads enjoyed the win,  well done to all sixteen players who gave it everything.

Man of the match: Liam Magee.

Our captain Aaron Ward opened the scoring with a left foot volley from twenty yards with twenty minutes gone on the clock. We missed at a few excellent chances to add to our lead but were guilty of some poor finishing , at the break we held a slender lead one nil.
We started the second half brightly dominating possession and our pressure finally paid off with Jordan Barry doubling our tally , we trebled our advantage with Adam Ward scoring from a twenty five yard free kick. Our  defense were very solid not allowing Dynamos have any attempt on goal in the game led by Shane Jordan and Jack O’Donaghue.

But we couldn’t hold on to that score line and  unfortunately we let Asdee get a foothold in the second half and they responded by hitting two goals so we had to settle for a point in the end.

Match report

Park 2, Mungret Regional 2 (AET) Park won 3-1 on penalties

A rousing Cup tie that had everything was witnessed on Saturday afternoonat the KDL. In very wet and windy conditions, both sides gave us great entertainment and could not be separated after full time or even after extra time.

A new look Park side started confidently and soon began stringing passes together, creating some early opportunities. Mungret however soon came to grips with the game and posed a threat in and around the Park penalty area.

Park however, opened the scoring, when after a goalmouth scramble, Ryan Guerin neatly finished from close range. Ryan was excellent at centre back ably assisted by Adam Walker, Darragh Walsh and Marc Brick. Somewhat against the run of play, Mungret got back on terms with a speculative effort and the sides went in 1-1 at the break.

Mungret started brightly in the 2nd half. It was a great battle in the middle of the pitch with great performances from Adam Sheehy and Jack Twamley who worked tirelessly. Going forward, Dan Fisher, Cianan Cooney and David O’Callaghan were proving a real threat with John O’Connor expertly leading the attack.

Mid way through the second half, Mungret edged in front and were beginning to dominate possession. However, this Park side refused to yield and 10 minutes later a superb John O’Connor finish made it 2-2!

For the remainder of normal time it was end to end in a game that could have gone either way and indeed Liam Carmody was called upon to make some excellent saves.

Extra time arrived and if anything, the Park boys raised their game further, This was helped by the arrival from the bench of Conor Kerins, Matt Healy, Ben Hanifin and James Charles, all making a massive contribution.

After over an hour and a half of football, the referees whistle went and the sides were locked at 2-2!

The dreaded penalty shoot out arrived. Ryan Guerin, Dan Fisher and David O’Callaghan found the net. Mungret scored their first penalty, however Liam Carmody denied them on 3 occasions and it would be the Park who would progress to the 3rd round!

Park FC 4 v 3 Tralee Dynamos
What a game – Park dominated the opening twenty minutes and were awarded a penalty when Parks Rafa Jokic was pulled down in the area,Park captain JR Tshikato stepped up and rifled the spot kick into roof of the net.
After taking the lead the Park lost there shape and work rate allowing Dynamos to dominate the game and they took full advantage scoring twice to take a 2 v 1 lead at the break.
Dynamos started as they finished the first half and extended there lead and looked comfortable to take all three points
Park changed there formation going three at the back to try and get back into game, the changes worked as Park started to dominate play creating chances with Mervin Shalemba and Alfie Christie coming close.
With only four minutes remaining in the game plus added time it was Parks captain JR showing sublime skill beating six defenders and slipping his shot thru the advancing keepers legs to kick start Parks amazing comeback.
Dynamos hit Park on the counter with Devon Byrnes pulling off a double save to help keep Parks hopes of getting something from the game alive.Parks Nathan Holden drew the sides level a minute into added time with a thunderous 30yrd volley and within a minute Jordan Barry fired Park in front leaving Dynamos devastated.Special mention to three players making their debut for the seventeens,Greg Scannell,Elliot Lynch and Jacob Rhadescu they all contributed to a great win

Registration

Registration & training/match fees for 2017-2018 Season

The Management Committee have decided that the Registration Fee payable per each player for the coming season will be €100, with training/match fees maintained at last season’s amount of €140, so the total cost per player for the full season is €240.  We are pleased to announce that the above fees include a Park F.C. branded O’Neills triton windcheater.

The fees will be used to pay Registration and Affiliation fees with both the Kerry Schoolboys/Girls League or the Kerry District League (adults), Player Insurance, electricity bills for our floodlights, as well as Referee’s fees, kit-washes etc.  The discounted Registration Fee for a second family member is €60, with discounted training fee €70.

The fees are payable by any of the three following methods:

ü  One instalment of €220 payable by Friday 29th September

ü  Three instalments of €80 payable by Friday 29th September, Friday 24th November and Friday 23rd February 2018.

ü  Eight instalments of €30 – only payable by Standing Order/bank transfer

Any person who wishes to pay by Standing Order/bank transfer from their Bank or Credit Union account may do so by contacting the Club Registrar – contact details below.

The discounted Registration Fee for a second family member can be paid in instalments of €40, €40 and €50 by the above dates.

Please note that the Management Committee have decided that a player is ineligible to train and therefore ineligible for selection if the Registration Fee is not paid in full by 29th  September or by the above dates if paying by instalments.

A Registration night will be held for each squad during the coming weeks in advance of the first deadline on 29th September (on training nights where possible).  Team Managers will advise you of the details.  Two further Registration nights will be scheduled in advance of Friday 24thNovember and Friday 23rd February 2018, to facilitate those who wish to pay in instalments by cash/cheque.

The Club is aware that the start of the football season coincides with that time of the year which places a burden on family finances in particular, but we believe that our fees are very good value for money for the service we provide and compare favourably with those of other sporting organisations.  We also hope that the instalment option will help.

Should you have any queries regarding this letter, please contact the Club Registrar at the number below (outside office hours), or any member of the Management Committee.

VITHIT 12 PREMIER RESULT

PARK U12A 4 : 0 L.B Rovers

On Wednesday evening our u12A got their league campaign at home to L.B Rovers. On the night we proved a little to strong for the away side by putting 4 past the visitors.

We started the game on the front foot, creating a number of changes, before eventually getting the opener when Seamus Kelly cleared a corner into the path of Jay Jay Olatigan.

He then played a pass from the right wing in to Marcus,in the centre circle, who slipped as the ball was coming towards him but somehow managed to get the faintest of touches on the ball and knock it around the defender into the  path of the on rushing Justin O’Sullivan who was now clear through on goal and with only the keeper to beat he applied the finish.
We went in one nil at the break. The second half went much of the same with three more goals scored all coming from substitutes. Ryan McMahon getting the second with a sweet left footed strike, Ciarian Kavanagh added a third after a great run down the left beating two men before hammering a shot to beat the keeper at his near post. Sam Fitzgerald rounded off the scoring to make it  four nil.

Subs: Aaron Powell,Jack Slattery , Ciarian Kavanagh Bruno Browsy Ryan McMahon and Sam Fitzgearld.

A mix of nerves and excitement were order of  the day in Christy Leahy Park when our U12A took on Pallas United in the SFAI Skechers Cup second round. this being the U12A first venture out in the countries most prestigious soccer competition.

we took the lead through CiarianKavanagh latched on to an inch perfect Jack Slattery diagonal pass to fire home a superb low volley into the bottom corner. We made it two nil within thirty seconds of the restart when half time substitutes Andrew Kerins played a one- two with Seamus Kelly.Andrew  whipped a cross to the back post to Ciarian Kavanagh who for the second time time found the bottom corner.

Pushing for the third we were hit on the counter attack to pull the score back to two-one. Seamus Kelly added a third after a flying run from Justin O’Sullivan down the left he laid the ball into Seamus path whose first time shot flew past the Palls keeper.

Pallas pushed hard to the end and pulled a goal back. An unstoppable free kick into the top corner, to make it three-two with  six minutes to go. The nerves had began to set in but the lads did brilliant to see the game out and now they head into round three of the competition.

Birdhill 0 Park FC 8

The Birdhill management had warned during the week that their side were young and looking for experience at this level and in fairness they were right. Birdhill were game opposition and held Park to just three goals in the first half but the Park boys were just too strong over the full seventy minutes.

When Josh Connolly opened the scoring with a long range shot in the first minute it looked ominous for Birdhill. Park were passing the ball well and opening the opposition up, but to their credit, Birdhill battled bravely even though they were being stretched all over the pitch.
Killian Murphy went close before Josh Connolly got his second, a fine goal ably assisted by Cianan Cooney. These two players combined again in the twentieth minute but this time it was Cooney finishing things off. Three nil at the break and no more than Park deserved.
Kieran O’Connor, Cooney, Conor Kerins, Ben Hanafin and Colin Doody all scored in the second half as the Birdhill team tired and they gave younger players some game time. It finished 8-0 on a wet afternoon in Tipperary.
There will be tougher challenges ahead and better performances will be required but it was still a good first competitive outing for the boys this season.
Thank you to all the parents for providing lifts and support and to Birdhill for their generous hospitality. We wish them all the best for the rest of the season.

Seniors

Match report.

St Brendans Park junior side made our return to the Kerry District League in Division 1B on Sunday last.

We faced Listowel Celtic B, a tough side in tougher weather away in Tanavalla and the Fealesiders were awarded a penalty on 12 minutes and went up 1-0.  We responded and were awarded a penalty of our own five minutes later and Mikey Burke equalised.

We pressed on from the kick off and Mikey netted his second to put us in front.  Our  midfield duo of Graham O’Neill and John Dineen were now running the show, contesting every ball and keeping our attack going. We continued to create chances,  especially with the pace of Aaron Ward down the left and Mikey soon completed his hat-trick before going on to notch his fourth before the break.

The second half saw us under a bit of pressure with the wind against us as Listowel started launching balls into our box, but some fantastic acrobatics from keeper, Jack Rogers kept us alive. However,  another through ball led to a mix-up in our defence and another penalty was conceded, which Listowel converted to make it 4-2.

The high winds remained a factor and saw us concede again as Listowel made some key changes.  At 4-3, we introduced Nathan O’Leary, who had played all his schoolboy and youth football with the club and was making a welcom return.

The year’s of coaching quickly told as Nathan made an instant impact and we settled down again with Mikey Burke netting his fifth after being played through by the influential number 10, Donagh O’Brien and we kept piling on the pressure, creating chances until Arron Ward killed the game off with a cool finish to make it 6-3.

Well done to all today. A tough first game but a good three points away from home   Team GK-Jack Rogers RB-Nathan O’Brien CB-Timmy Collins CB-Simon Kedzierski LB-Adam Ward  LM-Aaron Ward CM-John Dineen CM-Graham O’Neill RM-Dean O’Connell CF-Donagh O’Brien ST-Mikey Burke (Man of the Match)  Subs Used  Nathan O’Leary for Dean O’Connell  Ben Rocher for Mikey Burke Kieran Quilligan for Timmy Collins

✓ One instalment of €220 payable by Friday 29thSeptember
✓ Three instalments of €80 payable by Friday 29thSeptember, Friday 24th November and Friday 23rdFebruary 2018.
✓ Eight instalments of €30 – only payable by Standing Order/bank transfer

Any person who wishes to pay by Standing Order/bank transfer from their Bank or Credit Union account may do so by contacting the Club Registrar – contact details below.

The discounted Registration Fee for a second family member can be paid in instalments of €40, €40 and €50 by the above dates.

Please note that the Management Committee have decided that a player is ineligible to train and therefore ineligible for selection if the Registration Fee is not paid in full by 29th September or by the above dates if paying by instalments.

A Registration night will be held for each squad during the coming weeks in advance of the first deadline on 29thSeptember (on training nights where possible).  Team Managers will advise you of the details.  Two further Registration nights will be scheduled in advance of Friday 24th November and Friday 23rd February 2018, to facilitate those who wish to pay in instalments by cash/cheque.

We look forward to your support in the season ahead.

Park’s new look U15 squad acquitted themselves very well in Cork at the College Corinthians tournament on Sunday last.  Pitted against the hosts in the opening fixture, Park started very well with Sean Broderick, Ryan Guerin, Shoun Kedzierski and Adam Walker to the fore but lack of match practice told and Corinthians pounced to open the scoring after 15 minutes.

On the resumption, Park were caught cold from a set piece and despite the best efforts of Leonard, Leonid, Mark Curtin and Scott Rumgay, we were unable to get back into the game and when Corinthians scored after a goalmouth scramble, the Corkonians were truly flattered by their winning margin.

In the second game Park came up against Waterford kingpins Villa Utd. It looked ominous for the Tralee lads when Villa scored a very preventable goal in the first minute and held the lead into the half time break.

Spurred on by James Charles and Darren Griffin at the back, Jack Twamley and Leon Gallagher in midfield and Matt Healy up front, Park stormed back into the game in the second half and their equaliser was a thing of beauty. Broderick rolled a short kickout to Guerin who swept it wide to Walker.

The wing back played a reverse pass to Charles who launched a superb long pass into the inside right channel where David Callaghan latched onto it and smashed his shot across the keeper into the far corner. Park also had a goal from Matt Healy ruled out for offside and were full value for the draw.

In their final game, Park met Clonmel Town knowing that a win should guarantee second place, as would a draw if results elsewhere went their way.

After a tense struggle in which Park were well served by Dan Fisher and Vincent Murphy, neither side managed to break the deadlock, but with Villa losing to Corinthians, Park finished a very creditable second place in the group.

Overall, it was a fine squad performance from the Tralee side with Sean Broderick outstanding in goals, Ryan Guerin an inspiring skipper, with good support from James Charles and Darren Griffin and Adam Walker impressive at wing back.

The midfield duo of Jack Twamley and Leon Gallagher worked tirelessly throughout and David Callaghan was always dangerous up front but Park’s Man of the Tournament was highly influential midfielder Shoun Kedzierski.

Great credit is due to College Corinthians who were amiable and efficient hosts and showed how this type of tournament can be run.

Other News

The Kerry 15’s made history on Thursday night . They kicked off the U15 SSE League against Cork in Bishopstown. Their first game in the League. Having started the game very brightly, Sean McGrath (Park FC) puts Kerry 1-0 up after 23 minutes. First ever goal in the 15’s League of Ireland.1-1 at half time with Cork’s Sean Cummins equalising in the 35th minute. 2-1 Cork with bizarre goal as it rebounded off referee into path of Chris O’Connor who made no mistake in the 42nd minute. Colin Walsh (Park FC) levels matters with a cracking strike but then Cork go 3-2 up in next attack. Well done to all involved. A tough opening fixture but plenty of positives to take from it. Up next is a home tie with Wexford FC following their opening 9-0 thrashing of Cobh Ramblers.

REPORTS ;
(Youths) Jimmy Falvey Memorial Cup Final ; Fenit Samphires 2-1 Park Fc ,

St Brendans Park Youths before the Jimmy Falvey Memorial Youth Cup Final on Saturday 6th May 2017

Our youth team just came up short on Saturday night against a well organised Fenit Samphires side in the Jimmy Falvey memorial Youth Cup Final. In the game that came right down to the final whistel with the result in doubt the Park boys and management can be very proud of their efforts .

Fenit started the quicker and it took two great saves from David Oba to keep it scoreless early on.Cian Holden had our first chance after ten minutes with a strike from outside the box which was just off target before a header from Conor O’Brien just flashed by the outside of the near post from a Ciaran Killeen cross.

Park Fc captain Ciaran Killeen with match officials before the start of the Jimmy Falvey memorial Youth Cup Final .

Mid way through the first hald Fenit took the lead after they pounced on a defensive error. Our responce was excellent and Conor O’Briens curling effort went just inches over within a minute after falling behind. Just before the break we created two more excellent chances only for Blake Bolster and Conor O’Brien to both be denied by the Fenit keeper.

The second half started and once again Fenit seemed to start the better with David Oba again called into action early on. On the hour mark Conor O’Briens volley from outside the box was again saved by the keeper. The Fenit keeper then had to go at full stretch to save Pa Roche’s well struck shot from outside the box before Cian Holden saw his close range effort fly over the cossbar.

With just 18 minutes remaining Fenit doubled their advantage from a well take corner routine. From here on however it was all Park as we really had nothing to lose and pushed everyone forward. This pressure paid off with 9 minutes remaining when a long free fell to Cian Holden who rolled the ball into the far corner giving the advancing keeper no chance.

In the dying minutes we again pushed forward in search of an equaliser and it nearly came in the final minute of normal time when Kevin Browne got on the end of a long ball and from close range his effort was somehow saved by the keeper. Our final chance came in the 92nd minute when a corner from Blake Bolster was powerfully headed goalwards by Mark McDonnell but sadly it just flew over the crossbar .

Team; David Oba, Maciek Morawski, Mark McDonnell, Dylan Burns, Adam Ward, Ciaran Killeen, Pa Roche, Blake Bolster, Aaron Ward, Conor O’Brien, Cian Holden . Subs ; Dean O’Connell for Morawski , Alex Rowan Keane for Roche, Eoin Lynch for Conor O’Brien, Kevin Browne for Adam Ward .

REPORTS

(U11) Div 2 ; Killorglin C 3-7 Park C ,
With barely a cloud in the sky Park FC U11 C team travelled to Killorglin.
Optimism was high but was soon dented when Killorglin went in front from a well-worked goal.  Little by little the midfield magic of Park’s trio Emmanuel, Adi and Little Sean began to pull the strings leading to three unanswered goals from Park, two from Emmanuel and one from Finn to take Park FC into a deserved 3-1 half time lead.

The second half saw Park’s defence marshalled by strong performances from William, Zach and Big Sean stretched to the limit, but sterling defence and big saves from Mattheus and Cillian meant that they were breached only twice more.  At the other end meanwhile, Emmanuel completed his hattrick, set up by Sidiptu, little Sean netted a brace laid on by Adam, while Oran netted a wondergoal direct from a free kick.

When the final whistle blew Park fully deserved their 7-3 victory.
(U13) Premier League , Park A  4-2  Listowel Celtic A ,

Listowel Celtic came to the Park on Saturday promising another tough game for our lads. The Park boys have been in outstanding form since their narrow loss in the National Cup and that continued here with a fabulous display of football.

All over the pitch Park were excellent, passing accurately and some of the link up play was wonderful.
It was from a great link up between Messiah Chirwa and Colin Doody that the first goal came after 15 minutes. Doody’s brilliant pass was taken on by Chirwa and his bullet of a shot nearly tore the net from the posts.

Park had some more chances but found themselves going in level at half time when a hopeful ball into the home square ended up being tapped into the back of the net by a lurking Listowel midfielder.

Park really raised their game in the second half although playing against a strong breeze. Cianan Cooney and Chirwa were causing havoc to the Listowel defence while Conor Kerins in midfield was having a stormer. At the back Seán Hill and Kieran O’Connor were rocks in the centre while full backs Ben Hanafin and Seàn O’Connell hardly put a foot wrong.

Three splendid goals from Cooney swung the game Parks way and they probably could have had more as Danny Jeffers had a fine header ruled out for some rough and tumble in the box. Listowel’s consolation came a few minutes from time.

A fine performance from the Park lads that needs to be repeated all the way to the end of the season.
Thanks again to parents, family and friends for the great support.

On a footnote it was amazing to walk into Christy Leahy Park at 11.15am and see such a huge crowd of players and parents enjoying themselves and the sunshine. It’s worthwhile visiting on Saturday mornings just to witness all the superb voluntary work that’s being put in. Well done everyone. Park Academy every Saturday morning at 10am.

Panel: Liam Carmody, Ben Hanafin, Samuel Aladesanusi, Sean O’Connell, Jack Kearney, Sean Hill, Danny Jeffers, Conor Kerins, Sean O’Connor, Kieran O’Connor, Messiah Chirwa, Cianan Cooney, Colin Doody, Adam Wharton and David Feeley. Josh Connolly was injured.
